    Quick question plz help

Ok changed my oil like a week ago and right after I changed the oil I got codes about exhaust cam being to retarded!
Found it weird that it was like first start after oil change. I used a Mann filter changed both rubber gaskets and used Mobile 1 oil.
Thought maybe something got caught up in one of the VANOS solenoids so I took them out cleaned then and also took out both cam sensors and cleaned them as well!
Any chance maybe the VANOS solenoids or the one at least just went for a poop or there was something wrong with the oil filter or one of the rubber gaskets?
I already ordered new VANOS 2 of them so to change them both and they are OEM BMW.
I did have a slight misfire before that I was chasing but didnt have codes or a chance to chase it down so I was kinda thinking that maybe it was the VANOS all along and it just finally craped the bed??

Well put aa different oil filter in so its not that!
Hope to hurry up and the power thing figured out like fast.
I want it back by the time I get the new clutch and flywheel in so I can use the power!
Mind u it may be better to have less power for clutch break in

Code came back after you changed the solenoids and cleared the codes?

Can you post the actual codes that you are experiencing?

Sorry should have put that up before.
Sunday morning the cut in power went away and I was able to clear the codes and so far they have staied out.
I have 2 new VANOS on order waiting for them to arrive!

Well since the VANOS is oil controlled and you say it happened right after changing the oil. Did you add enough oil into the vehicle? If the codes didn’t come back then it was probably a transient error.

Code kept coming back for about 3 weeks. Yes I added enough oil. I'm acutely a licenced tech.
Went away on its own oddly but not before I had ordered new VANOS for both cams. So I installed them when they got here anyways.

They were probably just sticky then. Has the car been well serviced with good oil change intervals? I remember my old Sti had a sticky valve solenoid due to the previous owner not using synthetic oil and it was all gunked up. I blew the turbo shortly after due to a clog in the oil feed, basically giving it a stroke lol.
