All wheel drive makes the G20 3-Series fat - 2019 BMW 330i xDrive curb weight over 3700 pounds (no manual trans option)

Well, the new G20 3-Series is not in Audi weight territory but it is getting pretty close. A 3709 pound curb weight is not extremely heavy but it certainly is not light. Over 3700 pounds was once E39 5-Series territory but the 3-Series is now that big and heavy.

Keep in mind the 330i xDrive is the lightest US configuration you can get an all wheel drive BMW 3-Series in with its B48 four-cylinder.

If the four-cylinder is over 3700 pounds what does the M340i xDrive weigh? What will the G80 M3 weigh? BMW is going to have to work hard if they intend to deliver a 35XX pound G80 M3 with all wheel drive.

Even if they do, the weight distribution is no longer classic BMW 50/50. BMW's are getting up to 56% of their weight on the nose. Do not say all wheel drive does not come with drawbacks.

The acceleration performance is stellar. Even though this is the base 330i it performs well with 0-60 in 5.2 seconds and a 1/4 mile sprint of 13.9 @ 100. An E36 M3 would have its hands full in a drag race.

There is no manual transmission option here in the USA. That makes it less entertaining than past models but also the xDrive isn't doing any favors for fun factor:

In nearly every other modern car, we're able to hold the steering and throttle nearly constant as we follow the skidpad's circle; with practice, it's easy to keep the car right at the limit of adhesion. The new 330i will momentarily hold the line, but just as the car reaches its limit and without any throttle or steering provocation, the rear end starts to throw itself into the act, presumably to counteract understeer. And when the rear starts to come around, you find yourself working the steering to counter the tail movement, which corrects the immediate issue but restarts the cycle.
If you are looking for fun factor the rear wheel drive 330i with the Track Handling Package will handle better and be much lighter with better weight distribution. If you want to drag race, just step up to the M340i xDrive.

It sure feels odd to have a base 3-Series without a manual transmission option for the first time ever.

Seriously, what doe the M340i weigh?

If the G80 M3 is 3800 pounds this is a joke.

Maybe the Pure edition will be something special.

Curb weight on the B9 RS5 is 3,968 lbs, the M3 still has room to grow. God these are fat cars.
