Not enough M badges for you? Here comes 26 more!

According to Autocar , every vehicle in BMW's lineup is being considered for either an M or M-Performance variant. The M2 , M3 , M4 and M5 are obvious, as are M-Performance versions of each. The same goes for the X3 , X4 , X5 and X6 SUVs. Expect M versions of the upcoming Z4 and 8 Series, too.

Would you like an M badge with that? BMW to build 26 M or M-Performance models by 2019

What even is an M model these days? It used to be you could only get the M badge on an M3 or an M5. BMW protected it. Then M-Sport stuff started showing up. Then various other M appearance packages. Today? You can get an M badges on a front wheel drive BMW.

Seriously. BMW does not care what they put the M label on as long as it makes money.

Who ever thought we would see the day where a Type R badge is rarer than BMW's vaunted M?

Every single BMW vehicle is being considered for either an M model or M-Performance model.

What is likely to transpire is BMW will just up the boost on some base models, change the wheels, add a body kit, and some nice M badging for a premium.

With M-Performance, we can reach buyers not possible with classic M models.
Translation: We can make people buying entry level models think they have an M car.

    In other words, brand dilution.

Probably taking a page out of the Mercedes playbook in which they slap an AMG badge on everything. The (legitimate) AMG's don't disappoint though; I hope the various ///M's don't either.

Definitely it's just that was one of the major things that set them apart.

M models were far more rare and AMG just stuck the same motor in everything.

Now it's the same crap. Not that the cars are crap but you get the point.
