    Schrick N54 cams $1499.95

    Don't take it from me:

Hi Joe. Good news bro. N54 cams are in the building now. However we received under sets. The rest of the good news is that the price is $1499.95 a set which is a little less than expected.
The first batch is somewhat small so I'd say get in now. If the demand is there, expect them to do more in the next batch. If the demand isn't there, don't expect a next batch.

Let's see how the market reacts.

Who has exact specs on these. VAC says they do not. They just know there is two versions standard lift, and high lift. We will be running the first set on ported head, but stock valve train. VAC could not answer my question if the stock spring can handle the high lift cams. We are having them sent out today for testing in the near future so an answer would be helpful sooner than later. As it right now, I am just going to get standard lift for the street car, high lift for the race car with built head.

Historically, when Schrick say low-lift = stock springs OK, High-Lift = upgrade required..

    Congrats Tony,
I know its still too early to ask, but when were you planning on installing and dyno testing these on your car?

Honestly I don't know. I have to swap turbos on the car to some bigger ones so we can test those, will prob do the cams after that. So tired of taking this car apart

In for results! I wonder if we'll need access to more VE tables to properly tune the car for them?

You don't need VE tables to tune for cams. VE tables solely play into the internal airflow and fueling models. These DME models are already way off with all the other mods that have been done.

I've never tuned cams on an N54 motor, obviously. But spent many a long hours working VE tables for other platforms. I guess once installed we'll see what needs to be done. Would be great if minimal tuning work is required!

Thanks to the closed loop AFR targeting and speed density, I'd wager only WGDC, fuel scalars, and vanos changes will be needed.

The stock springs should be able to be swapped out without too much extra work when installing, is that correct?

They give the same basic specs as all their other cams. I believe they are calling these 268/268 low lift cams are 11.5/10.5mm, and high lift 12/11mm. Changing springs is not easy when swapping cams. I would not suggest anyone try it without the proper tools. Well unless you want to drop a valve into the motor, and pull the head. Valve springs are pretty cheap for these things, I regret not doing springs on this motor, and just leaving out the Ti retainers

    Noted. Ty
Will have to see what specialty tools needed that I don't have for the cam swap as well.

Well Tony i'm excited to see your results on the low lift cams. I have the high lift cams on my head. Paul said he was going to rebuild my vanos sprockets as well. Not sure if that is required for the cams or not but i also believe they're using the ferrara valves and springs on my set up too.

Wouldn't it make sense to have the tune dialed in in open loop and then have the closed loop trim for whatever minor variances show up?

The DME models are off because from the beginning this platform hasn't been tuned properly and people were just blindly adjusting tables without knowing what they actually do or why.

This definitely is not an attack on you but it's hard for me to grasp that we don't need a VE table and that a fuel scalar will suffice. That's not correct on any other platform I have tuned whether it be Hondata, AEM EMS, or variety of different LSx combinations.

Have you thought of consulting with a professional calibrator when defining the tables? I know it would be expensive but if the end goal is to deliver a product that's professional grade I think it would help a ton.

I was complaining about the price and I can now say that these cams if proven to work will be on my "to get" list at that price.

Not trying to question your knowledge on these motors or anything but why can't you just pressurize the cylinder through the spark plug hole to keep the valves from dropping like most motors?
