7-speed manual C7 Z06 versus Lamborghini LP570-4 Gallardo Super Trofeo Stradale roll on races

People obviously should focus more on the C7 Corvette Z06 track performance than its straightline performance but this is one race that we certainly will not ignore. You may recognize this Lamborghini LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale from when it raced a Porsche 991 Turbo on the dragstrip.

The Lamborghini had a best elapsed time of 11.3 seconds and a best trap speed of 126 miles per hour. That is definitely in the C7 Z06 drag racing ballpark although the supercharged 6.2 liter LT4 engine is clearly making more power and torque than the 570 horsepower 5.2 liter naturally aspirated V10 under the hood of the Gallardo.

The advantage the Lambo has in this run is that it is about 400 pounds lighter than the Z06. Its sequential gearbox also will offer quicker and more consistent shifts than the C7 Z06 manual even with a great driver in the Corvette.

So what happens? The first run has the Z06 appear to take the hit and open up a nice lead. The Super Trofeo gets pulled pure and simple.

The second run is interesting as the Lambo gets the hit. The Z06 is said to spin its tires and the all wheel drive LP570-4 does not have this problem. The Lambo quickly opens up a lead and extends it. Interestingly, the Z06 can not close the gap and the result is similar to the first run but reversed.

What do we learn? It's a drivers race between the two cars. At least until the automatic Z06's show up.

First I thought the Z owner shifted so fast for MT from the exhaust note until I watched it again ;-) nice runs still.

These sequential gearboxes shift much faster than anyone can shift in a manual tranny often adding mph and reducing elapsed times....
