    • Reminder: The rods are the first to go on the S63TU V8 in the BMW F10 M5 and F13 M6

All of us see monster dyno numbers from various tuned F10 M5's and F13 M6's on the dyno. There is a big difference between holding together on the dyno and in the real world. If you are going to push things into that 700+ lb-ft of wheel torque range it is a matter of when, not if, the rods will fail.

It is an issue more common than most would like to admit because people like to think their motors are capable of huge power without issue.

You can see in the photo above this mildly tuned M5 had a few rods (4,7,8 the most noticeable) bend.

This is why BPC and others offer S63TU engine builds capable of holding big torque. There are many S63TU's out there with bent rods when going past that 700+ lb-ft of torque range. It all depends on the tune, how it is driven, etc.

Want peace of mind? Upgrade the rods.

Can BPC quote an estimated Rod upgrade cost? does it make sense to do the pistons while you're in there?

The only way we will do it (currently) is a sleeved block with rods and pistons. PM Me if your serious and I will gather a quote for you @Bowser330

I was just looking for a general number/rough quotation for a typical build, I wasn’t looking for anything contractual.

Wow, those bent rods are insane. Do you guys do any work on the N63 version beyond a basic flash?

        You mentioned

Can you elaborate on the tune?

If you want all the torque down low it is more likely to bend rods.
