• Pricing announced for the new lighter 2017 G30 BMW 5-Series - $51,200 starting MSRP for 530i

The next generation G30 5-Series is supposed to be a big improvement over the F10 generation. The interior and exterior updates are a given but the main concern is BMW shedding weight over the porky F10. BMW claims up to 137 pounds were shaved off.

      • Weight Reduction of up to 137 lbs through extensive use of aluminum, magnesium and high-strength steel.
      • Improved Performance and Dynamics with improved steering feel, available Adaptive mode and all-new 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engines, with an output increase of 35 hp on the 6-cylinder.
      • Standard equipment enhancements include Adaptive LED Headlights, Sport Seats, 18-inch Wheels and an Anthracite headliner.
      • Latest iDrive 6.0 system and improved Driver Assistance Systems.

We'll see when the cars are weighed independently but claiming 'up to 137' pounds saved has us thinking that is the maximum you will see and only with certainly models such as the entry level 530i.

      Regardless, here is the pricing:

      BMW 530i $51,200
      BMW 530i xDrive $53,500
      BMW 540i $56,450
      BMW 540i xDrive $58,750

The monetary penalty for all wheel drive is quite reasonable. The 530i obviously has the B48 engine and the 540i the B58. What we really want to see are details on the M550i xDrive and its twin turbo V8 which will be the highest performance 5-Series until the new F90 M5 arrives.

BMW has not announced pricing yet for the M550i xDrive. Depending on where they place it the next M5 may start at close to six figures.
