    • AMS Performance drops ESS-Tuning in lieu of their own tuning solution for their Alpha 9 F10 M5 / F13 M6 S63TU turbo upgrade package

Most people will not remember that AMS Performance announced a couple years ago they would be doing a turbo upgrade package for the F10 M5 S63TU engine. This created a big stir in the BMW Performance scene at the time as enthusiasts knew the incredible performance results AMS had achieved with the Nissan GTR.

We all know AMS was more than capable of upgrading the turbo hardware at the time but the issue was not the hardware. It was the tuning for the hardware. That is where ESS-Tuning was supposed to come in and provide their tuning 'expertise' with this turbo upgrade.

Well, you may have noticed that AMS did not release any S63TU turbo upgrade since this announcement and that ESS-Tuning did not complete any tuning for any aftermarket S63TU turbo upgrade packages. They are not the only ones by the way. Dinan also has yet to come through on F10 M5 / F13 M6 turbocharger upgrades and built S63TU motor promises.

So why the big claims and big announcements when both Dinan and ESS-Tuning knew they did not have the capability to tune them at the time? In the case of ESS-Tuning it was likely just a cheap publicity grab designed to get them exposure and fuel their fanboys. In retrospect, it looks downright deceitful and is pretty embarrassing considering they had nothing to back up their claims with the F-Series ECU's just recently being cracked.

AMS has their own S63TU tuning solution and will be providing their own tuning for their Alpha 9 S63TU turbo upgrade package.

Will anyone even bother to hold ESS-Tuning accountable for tuning claims they could not deliver on? At least one BMW website does not have a short term memory and certainly will.

Here is to the future turbo upgrades and quality S63TU tuning options.

This is just the beginning. They state they have their turbo upgrades in place which are pictured. We will see what comes of it when they are ready to announce it as available.

Things should progress much more quickly from this point forward.

They should just give it to Terry already to make another World record.

No offense to Terry but flash tuning BMW's isn't his ballgame.

Terry said he's not going to be working on s63 no more, I believe he got rid of his m5 as well, all attention to M3 unfortunately

Probably not compared to the others that only work with BMW's. However, his tool for tuning or piggyback (Jb4) I believe holds the record right now for the m5/6 does it not? Which I can attest probably 80% of M5/6 owners I know that have a tune, it is the JB4. So It would only make sense to make use of someone that is already dominating that part of the field. I'm sure people will want a flash tune as well, I'm not saying I wouldn't.

He never came out with a JB4 for the M5/6, its only a boost controller with the option to run meth with the newer board. No way to ever due hardware upgrades with that set up. It makes the cars very fast but in no way is comparable to a real flash tune .

Really? What's the reasoning behind this?

Honestly the JB4 is not going to be what one needs for turbo upgrades.

It's a great tune but where the JB4 excels is in stock turbo BMW tuning. S63TU turbo upgrades will be flash tuning dominated.

I would assume not as much market as there is for m3/4, and a lot more work.

Really hoping to see results AMS vs Eurocharged, if upgraded turbos will be at least 750whp on pump gas I would really like to have it

I bet AMS will pull this off like they did on the E63 M157.. Can't wait to see numbers and more! They are the only ones who post a picture of some turbos on whatever car(M5) and weeks after BOOM turbo upgrades for the M5 F10...
        Work > Too much talk!

The tranny may pose a slight problem but Dodson pretty much has that covered. The cars are going to be very nice with turbo upgrades.

        Especially the SUV's. Stoplight monsters.

May need bigger housings for that on pump gas.

We'll see. I like all the hp #'s they are providing but really want to see what their tune is like on the street. Hopefully with the tune and bolt on's it will go in mid 130's

I have been trying to get a boost to rpm map from both top guns but have not received a response, In fairness they are both still fine tuning. Just holding 22psi to 7000-7500 rpm on this 4.4L DOHC V8 should be harnessing 800-850hp probably on pump. For those pushing the envelope 1000hp is achievable at 30psi, both the 22 and 30psi hitting the upper rpm range will need updated turbos. We will see if holding 22-30 psi to redline will pose any issues with internals or dct, I am sure we will gain insight from the tuners if any issues with the dct once the first batch of uprated turbos are dyno'd at the lower boost setting to 7200-7500rpm or so....

I've been saying this since about 8-9 months ago. I don't think ESS and VF know what they're doing, tuning-wise. They are in way over their heads. AMS has a certain goal in mind and they are used to being able to tune everything they need. I don't think ESS can do that and AMS found out about it the hard way.

You might be jumping into conclusions a little too quick. Take a look at the S55, no flash tune Jb4 Still holding both records for highest hp stock and upgraded turbos...

I don't know anything about ess or vf, I was referring to Eurocharged and alpha, still waiting for boost:rpm numbers for their most recent tunes....
