    • Finally an 8 second US street BMW - Maximum PSI's turbo E36 goes 8.941 @ 164.33

Congratulations to the crew at Maximum PSI who finally accomplished a goal that has been a long time coming. Their turbo E36 shop car broke into the 8 second range in the 1/4 mile with a blistering 8.941 @ 164.33 miles per hour pass making their car officially the quickest and fastest street BMW in the United States.

This is technically a street BMW although it is prepped for the strip as the parachute will tell you. Still, it does use the factory DME and that factory computer is tuned by Nick G of Tehnique Tuning.

The engine was recently rebuilt and Maximum PSI posted a dyno just over the 1000 whp range although they did not state how much power and torque they were making for the record run. Additionally, the full engine build specs would be nice to have. Some sandbagging here? Probably, and BimmerBoost does not blame them.

Regarding the specs for the run they used FTW Orange fuel and roughly 36 psi of boost. 16 inch slicks helped put the power down.

Congratulations again to Maximum PSI for breaking a longstanding barrier in the US BMW tuning scene.

Knowing mike and the crew, there is usually never any sandbagging! They are very open about everything. Last time I talked to mike he was running the boost controller at 100% duty cycle with the biggest spring combo they could fit.

Sticky, This is the first car in the world to run 8s with an all BMW driveline. That is the biggest accomplishment.

I think that is correct but I wasn't sure about some of the Swedish BMW's. Regardless, it is a true 'street' BMW in the 8's due to that not just due to being street legal.

Two posts on the same topic within a couple days could be seen as favoritism. As it is a major breakthrough I feel it may be warranted.

That said, the video is now in that original topic so do we need to repost? See what I'm saying?

Thanks guys! The car has had a long road from ~2006 until today. We will now focus on pushing our E46 kit even further, and also turn toward the newer turbocharged lineup of BMW's. I listed the E36 up for sale and sold it within a few days of posting it up. The new owner has some nice plans for the car, and it will be located near one of the fastest tracks in the country(MIR).

Bummer it's gone but it's understandable.

Regardless, it holds the quickest and fastest street BMW 1/4 mile record in the USA and was the first to get into the 8's.

        It's a tremendous achievement.

8's in an E46 are not going to be easy. Is there even a 9 second US E46 M3?

8's in any street car isn't easy! We were the first e36 in the 9's, and the first in the 8's.

Yes you were. I'm sure if anyone can do it, it will be you. However, exceeding this E36 with your E46 is a tall order.

Good luck and I hope you achieve your goal. I'll be watching of course.
