    • This is what a factory BMW N54 I6 connecting rod looks like next to a factory M57 I6 diesel rod

Jaws dropped when last week Santjer Performance posted over 1000 lb-ft of torque at the wheels out of a BMW E90 M57 diesel. A stock internal 3.0 liter inline-6 M57 diesel at that. Not only with a ton of boost but a bunch of nitrous as well which definitely taxes rods at low RPM.

Diesels by their very nature put stress on components at low rpm. That is why you see such a beefy factory rod.

The M57 factory diesel rod is on the left and the N54 factory rod is on the right. Suddenly, the N54 does not look like a German 2JZ, eh?

Yea, I saw that video last week or so. Impressive numbers for a diesel, that rod looks insane.

        BEEFY!

Good to know if I ever decide to push my M57s. I just can't see upgraded twins being worth it on the M57 in an x5. In the sedan I guess.

It looks pretty buff, but the area around the wrist pin looks surprisingly thin.

Bobweight isn't much of a big deal when you only rev to what 4500 rpms at most?

        M57 is 4750!

The N57 which replaces the m57 raises it to whopping 5400! 375hp/550 crank or whatever. Not shabby for a 3L diesel.

        A 6.7 Cummings is like 3-3500 right?
