    • Next gen BMW M2 will stay rear wheel drive and not share the F44 2-Series Gran Coupe FWD based platform

Well, that is a relief. Many enthusiasts (including yours truly) panicked when BMW was slated to use the MINI FWD platform to underpin the next generation 2-Series. Fortunately, the F44 2-Series revealed with the new M235i xDrive Gran Coupe will be separate from the 2-Series coupe.

That means a four-cylinder plus a nose heavy FWD based drivetrain will not be forced on enthusiasts plus rear wheel drive will remain. At least one BMW M car will still adhere to the traditional BMW M philosophy.

It is somewhat amusing the best BMW's driver's car will be its cheapest and entry level M car.
