    • McLaren 720S Spider vs. BMW S1000RR vs. Ariel Atom 4 in a 1/2 mile drag race - 0-60, 0-100, 1/4 mile, and 1/2 mile times

Three very different ways to go fast here but three very fast rides. The McLaren 720S is simply the performance bar for automobiles right now and with good reason, it's spectacularly fast. This is the slightly heavier spider version utilized but it should not make a large difference.

The BMW S1000RR was for some time considered the benchmark sport bike. The fact we have cars going up against sport bikes today is amazing in of itself.

The Ariel Atom 4 obviously is all about power to weight ratio. It has the Honda Civic Type R turbo powerplant good for 320 horsepower and only weighs 1100 pounds or so.

They do two runs and in the first 1/2 mile sprint the bike jumps early. It wins but it is close with the 720S. The Ariel Atom is nowhere to be found.

The second run has the 720S come out on top courtesy of a better reaction time and launch.

The bottom line? The BMW S1000RR and McLaren 720S are very close to each other with reaction time determining the victory and that is incredible.

Fortunately, they got us some data removing the reaction time factor:

      1/4 mile times:

      720S: 10.2 @ 143.9
      S1000RR: 10.48 @ 148.56
      Atom: 11.22 @ 126.41

      1/2 mile times:

      720S: 15.87 @ 171.25
      S1000RR: 16.03 @ 172.93
      Atom: 17.89 @ 143.2
