    • Magazine ringer? MotorTrend's BMW G15 M850i test figures much, much slower than Car and Driver - 11.9@116.1 1/4 mile

We all understand conditions vary and cars will have different test times under different conditions but Car and Driver and MotorTrend are very far apart on the new M850i xDrive. As in seven miles per hour of trap speed apart which might as well be over 100 horsepower at a 4400 pound curb weight.

      What is going on here?

      Car and Driver:

      0-60 - 3.3
      1/4 mile - 11.5 @ 123

      MotorTrend:

      0-60 - 3.5
      1/4 mile - 11.9 @ 116.1

Call BimmerBoost crazy but that difference sure looks like it could be stock versus tuned or in other words press file versus standard file.

A couple miles per hour difference? Fine. Seven miles per hour? That is fishy.

Magazine test numbers are becoming so unreliable that they are almost worthless. One has to wait on owners to test their own cars to actually have valid and realistic performance metrics.

That is a substantial difference even the 0-60 is a big change.

Well, CandD does allow a 1' roll out. Do not know about how MT tests. CandD is a certified car abuser and no conscientious owner would treat one's own car like they do their test cars. Probably brake torquing to 5K RPM, for example.

I would wait until some more timed tests at the strip, etc. to determine if CandD got a ringer or not. If MT is a press car, I am fairly certain it has the same tune, legitimate or not.

have to also consider where C&D tests their cars vs MT (gas quality).

Yea i was really shocked when i saw the car & driver times...just seemed too fast for what it is.

need to see another magazine test the car to see.
