    • Hardcore M2 track car? 2020 BMW F87 M2 Track Cup with 470 hp S55 rumored

BMW enthusiasts are grateful for the F87 M2 Competition which fixed the major mistake BMW made with the F87 M2 which was not giving it an M motor. How do you have an M vehicle without an M engine? That mess aside, it seems BMW is working on a hardcore M2 for track junkies.

Yes, an M2 CS is on the way which will essentially sharpen the M2 Competition. Beyond the M2 CS is a rumored BMW F87 M2 Track Cup. This would be a track toy and not for the street but it would also be an affordable race car.

What would BMW change? Well, for one, they could shave some weight off the porky M2 Competition. That model can weigh over 3600 pounds. Yes, utterly absurd and it certainly seems a bit redundant when the F82 M4 can undercut it in weight depending on options.

The M2 Track Cup would no doubt be lighter with revised aerodynamics, more power, upgraded brakes (carbon ceramics), and likely have a roll cage option and a stripped interior.

Will it happen? Who knows. The M2 CS has to come out first and BimmerBoost is wondering if perhaps those M2 CSL rumors somehow transformed into these M2 Track Cup rumors that are now being spread.

What we can say for sure is an M2 CS is on the way. Unfortunately, there are no sources to cite for this M2 Track Cup as 'unnamed sources' are the support for the rumor to begin with.

How is it that the little M2 Competition weighs as much as my larger 4-Door M3??? More steel and less aluminum in the construction I guess?

        My E92 M3 is lighter.

What's lame is one of the M boss guys was in an interview lying through his teeth how the old motors were soooo heavy. BS. These turbo motors with the associated cooling have way more weight up front.

It is said the CS will not be any lighter, which would be pointless to buy since it would be cheaper to just upgrade parts on your M2 comp.

Yea, I don't get it. What's the point even then?
