    • Twisted Tuning parallel N54 HPFP (high pressure fuel pump) upgrade coming for increased direct injection fueling capability

Twisted Tuning discussed an upgraded HPFP for the N54 and N55 back in 2017 but it seems they are going a slightly different route now. To expand direct injection fueling capability @TwistedTuning will add a HPFP in parallel.

That means a pump in addition to the factory pump driven off the engine.

Now, pricing is not available yet but obviously BimmerBoost users will cite the most direct competition which is the VTT (Vargas Turbo) shotgun setup which also runs pumps in parallel.

How will these options stack up? We will have to wait and see.

The N55 looks like it will also be supported.

LOL so they failed at every attempt at doing everything else like we said they would do, and now knocked us off like everyone else does. Welcome to the N54 world. You innovate products, people talk them down until they can no longer ignore them, then they are copied. Hip hip hooray

        It's a copy?

Pretty close. Lets take into account. They said they were releasing their own upgraded hpfp meaning upgraded pump. We laughed, they failed, now all of sudden they have a housing to run another pump off the belt, yes thats a copy. This is nothing new for us, it happens on just about every product we release at some point.

Initially, yes, that was the claim.

I do think it's frustrating for many of you guys getting ripped off. From the big boys at Borg Warner all the way down to the guy innovating something in his garage.

I'm not familiar with either product but I will say you came to market first and to your credit with an innovative solution. I certainly hope this isn't a direct copy.

I just looked closer, that is a 3D printed housing, and he’s trying to drive it electrically. Lol. I have $1000 this will crash, and burn before its ever released. The guy is clueless when it comes to this stuff. Check back on this thread in 12 months. He will not have a working product... I retract My previous statements, this is laughable...

Tony you're basically berating the guy and calling him incompetent. At least let him defend himself and be civil.

If the shoe fits, I do not think he is a vendor here. If he was I would gladly tone it back. I know you hate the other site, but go check out his "HPFP" thread. He promised everyone an "upgraded" HPFP 2 years ago. He literally had no chance to make this happen, some of the biggest names in injection pumps in the world told me it was not economically feasible to do that when we first asked them over 5 years ago, so we went with an extra pump on the belt. Fast forward 5 years, this guy is making baseless promises, and of course, could not deliver. Now he wants you to believe he is going to electrically drive this pump. I stand by my statement, this product will never come to market, its another "teaser" of something he has no idea the actual scope of what he is proposing... shrug

Can get what Tony is saying here. His concept is often smack talked, for numerous reasons outside the point here. Then many say they are going to do it the right way, by means of upgrading the OE pump/etc. Then he calls them out on it, then they say wait and see. Then a year or so goes by and they use the exact same premise he had established initially. Now that doesnt mean it wasn't changed, let us hope that it is not an exact copy- that is always very lame. But means of application and concept certainly looks to be very close.

But indeed always fun to call something in advance, and see you were right after the longhaul wait. A very large ongoing trend with the platform indeed, not that anyone else really ever seems to care as long as there are more options- but still cool for the parties directly involved to get the vindication of calling it in advance.

I would agree with Tony. Under load (high pressure and high flow) the motor will burn up in a short amount of time. The mobile construction industry uses electric motors to drive pumps for secondary steering hydraulic systems. Under load, those burn up in under a minute if you're lucky. Not to mention the amperage it takes to run them. I've even seen them on fire from getting too hot while I was testing once.....whoops. I haven't studied the design details of the pump and fuel system (i.e. pressure, flow, speed) to know, the system may take a lot less power to run than what I'm used to designing, but based on my experience it's likely not going to work.

Maybe he found something a Fortune 65 company doesn't know. If so, kudos to him and he should have applied for a patent yesterday.

[Edit] I work for said Fortune 65 company and this is a constant topic of discussion for every new machine that's designed. It just isn't economically feasible to design a motor to work for this type of application.

Tony, he posted in that thread here and it is linked in the the article: https://www.bimmerboost.com/showthre...)-HPFP-upgrade

He didn't hide from it or anything but yes the upgraded HPFP pump did not work out. I'm not sure why.

Not sure why? LOL, it was DOA when he announced it. He had literally 0% chance to create a feasible HPFP upgrade. He knew that very quickly which is why the thread went dead, and he strung everyone along trying to figure out what to do. What he came up with is awesome if you literally have no idea about fluid dynamics, and how these pumps work. As I said check this thread in 12 months, there will be no product. The more I look at that photo the more I giggle.

What happened to the water balloon at the end of the fuel rail concept? That was the best fueling idea I've heard of for the platform in a long time lol.

Well I mean other HPFP tries for the N54 failed too but why insult him over it?

If he's copying your product, that's one thing. Trying and failing where nobody else succeeded isn't any reason to put someone down.

This turned into another argument post, why not let twisted tuning explain his design regardless of anyone's opinion and regardless if the concept will work or not.
