    • Stock 2019 BMW F90 M5 Competition breaks into the 10's in the 1/4 mile - Comparison to tuned times

Well this is very interesting as the Competition edition of the F90 M5 definitely is providing a nice performance boost for the claimed increase to 617 horses. How much of a performance boost? This stock example is running similar 1/4 mile times to a JB4 tuned example.

We need more stock results for context but it look like the M5 Competition is good for a few tenths and a couple miles per hour over the standard F90 M5.

Conditions and tracks differ but the Competition and JB4 tuned cars are eerily close.

      Competition F90 M5:

      JB4 F90 M5:

BMW is giving you a tune with a warranty. If you want to go beyond this no reason to really opt for a Competition M5 as the warranty appeal is gone.

      10-second pass:

What tires does the competition package come with compared to the non competition?

The amount of time before you move. Has no effect on the elapsed time.

If it takes you half a second or two seconds to hit the gas it's irrelevant.

        Hey Sticky,

thanks for the lesson, much appreciated.

I live in Sydney, Australia and have always enjoyed nice cars.

Over the last 6 years I’ve had a Porsche 997 Turbo S, with a tonne of upgrades, KW, Akra exhuast cargraphic headers, big this and that Manthey wheels, about 700 hp. Mental car. Had a AMG C63 Black Series with a ECU and TCU tune with engine and gearbox mounts and full cargraphic exhuast from the manifolds back. A lovely Bentley Conti GT TTV8 with a tune and that thing got up and just flew! Two McLarens, a 12c then a 650S.

Also have a Shelby Cobra all alloy 427 side Oiler, the real deal and pristine Aston Martin Vantage 1981 with only 6,000 miles and like new. Awaiting restoration are two Shelby Mustangs both 1966, only a GT350 and the other a GT350H. Both barn finds and all matching numbers.

the car I really love has been my daily driver for nearing 4 years and is in fact the first car I have had owned since new beyond three years. It’s a M4, with Akra, hiflow cat downpipes, intake, KW’s, turbos upgraded and just recently all the M4 GTS software upgrades for steering, ABS, e-diff - Completely transformed the car at the track. Diff locks up really early and to get sideways you just need to squeeze on the throttle a bit, the torque does the rest.

i was informed earlier today from my dealer that my F90 M5 Competition Pack has arrived off a ship. It’s Donington and black interior. Akra being installed and diffuser, KW V4’s, Eventuri intake (when it’s available) then after first service after run in period, it will have the McChip DKR tune, Stage 2. I’m lucky as my car is a catted car not the new OPF exhuast. This is causing all manner of headaches for the exhaust aftermarket industry.........Akra are planning downpipes, which I will happily wait for and I might have those turbos played with......I’ll lower the car maybe 15-20mm, see if it needs spaces, give it a window tint and then go out there and find some exotic machinery to eat for breakfast.......

        all in good fun!

Well that's quite a collection. If I'm ever in Sydney I wouldn't mind stopping by.

Sounds about right. The base car seems to be a roughly 125 car.

I've never been. My parents have a few times and they enjoyed it.

It's on the list of places to visit for sure!
