I hope you dyno the new CAI.

Well, next, a downpipe probably makes the most sense.

It's either that, or a FMIC.

the downpipe makes the biggest single improvement in the car so far that I have noticed.

Instead of the AFE intake I would have done the Injen. AFE doesnt seem to have a solid history with these engines and making horsepower.

I don't know much about them, but THIS is what I was thinking for a true CAI

Is the down-pipe street legal? I checked AFE, Vishnu and Burger. They say it is for off-road use. Also, anybody reade the recent European Car article on the N55 Vishnu chip? The numbers don't add up.

There is no "N55 Vishnu chip" as it is a piggy back.

Generally speaking, non-catalytic downpipes are not street legal and will not pass emission sniffers. Look at the thread on the CP-E 5" downpipe which should be available soon with converter.

    What were the numbers?

Magazines usually have BS info as they just slurp whatever the tuners give them.

The article claims 33 hp, but the numbers indicate 12 hp. They must have goofed. Good tip on the magazines. Thanks!

Just what it sounds like, a tune that piggy back rides off the factory ecu. Unlike a flash, the factory ECU programming remains unchanged and is instead influenced (tricked).

Well, I think if I was to do it over again, I would put the $850 I spent on a FMIC toward an LSD. I would definately go meth before FMIC. I certainly wish I had an LSD everytime I go to the drag strip or feel the car slide sideways in 2nd when the meth kicks in while doing some spirited driving.
2011 335is DCT, JB4 + MHD BEF, stage 2 LPFP, e50 + 50/50 meth, FBO, MT ET Streets when needed

I guess it depends on what you want to do...

When I upgraded my car, I knew that I probably wouldn't track it as much and seeing the cost/benefit ratios helped. Like an FMIC was basically out of the question for right then and there because I had to get one fabricated for my 5. So I went meth instead.

I'd have to say if I did it again I would do:
    1) Tune and Intake
    2) DP's
    3) Meth
    4) FMIC

I might switch 3 and 4 depending on your temp situations..up to you though...basically you can't really go wrong as long as you have a solid tune and intake first...just my 2 cents

How about this! Install a tune from OEM BMW Performance Power Kit (Version 1: Engine Software only) N55 tune & then have the BMS JB3 N55 stack on top of it =) Sure this did work with some of the RT 1M/335i N54 tunes + JB4.

No offense brother but you chose the very wrong car, X5 50i is the car to go or even a X5 4.8i with ESS supercharger kit.

I didn't need a 50i, nor could I afford the 50i configured the same way the 35i was configured (it was $82k for the 50i with the same goodies, for that I could have gotten an X5M, but the X5M doesn't have 3rd Row Seating, so that cancelled that option out as well)... You are right, the 50i price is too much. Do you really use the 3rd row?
