12 second hybrid? That is what Car and Driver says the 2011 F01 750li ActiveHybrid is

Car and Driver did a short take road test of the active hybrid 750. This is a car with a 4800 pound curb weight (about 250 pounds over the regular 750) due to the electric motor and battery yet it still manages to run an impressive 12.8@112 which is just about on par with an E92 M3. So, if you really feel the need to save the world and be green, you don't have to do it in a Prius and can still have fun.

    Specs:

    VEHICLE TYPE: front-engine, rear-wheel-drive, 5-passenger, 4-door sedan

PRICE AS TESTED: $109,975 (base price: $107,075)

    ENGINE TYPE: twin-turbocharged and intercooled DOHC 32-valve V-8, 440 hp, 480 lb-ft; AC synchronous electric motor assist, 20 hp, 155 lb-ft; combined power rating, 455 hp, 515 lb-ft

TRANSMISSION: 8-speed automatic with manumatic shifting

    DIMENSIONS:
    Wheelbase: 126.4 in
    Length: 205.3 in
Width: 74.9 in Height: 58.3 in
    Curb weight: 4807 lb

    C/D TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 4.5 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 10.2 sec
Zero to 130 mph: 18.1 sec
Street start, 5–60 mph: 5.2 sec
    Standing -mile: 12.8 sec @ 112 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 147 mph
    Braking, 70–0 mph: 160 ft

    FUEL ECONOMY:
    EPA city/highway driving: 17/24 mpg
    C/D observed: 21 mpg

That is literally insane (although, must say – also pretty awesome).

It seems that BMW is underrating their engines; a car that weighs in at ~4800 lbs., and only has 35ish more horses than the current M3 yet runs the 1/4 in the same? I understand that the torque difference is nothing to sneeze at - all I am saying is that I would like to see this thing on a dyno.

I'm thinking the electric motor's instant torque is helping quite a bit. Still, yes, very impressive to see that kind of weight move like that.

I really want to see real world numbers though, because I find C&D's numbers always a little overrated. Would love to see the slip though, wonder what the 60' is?

    With a 0-60 of 4.5 probably around 1.9 60 foot or so.

Remember, this has more power and torque than the standard 750 so I think a 12.8 is realistic.

I've been driving it now for a few months and I can attest! This car is a blast! So much torque, lol, flying around doing power slides, and fish tailing out the back end for fun in a 7 !......what a crazy car. Then when i want to chill....go into cruise/luxury and get high 20's mpg on the freeway. I can't find a fault with the car.
