Question Dual Exhaust really a part time Single Exhaust

On the N55-335i and possibly the N55-135i There is a Pneumatic Actuator on the drivers side exhaust that closes that exhaust. About 7" in you can see the circular plate that closes off the exhaust - Why?

Clamp the hose or disconnect the connector and exhaust note changes instantly, and with the JB3 Stage 1 the turbo lag is almost gone. And dramatic change to exhaust note.

Anyone know why it's there? It does not make sense to have a dual exhaust when BMW Closes off the drivers side exhaust, forcing the exhaust to transfer thru the connecting pipe to the passenger side. This does explain why the passenger side of exhaust has more carbon build up.

Yep, it gives the car a mild sound when you're not heavy on the throttle for the BMW driver that thinks the stock exhaust could be too 'loud'. +1 on the golf tee mod, although it's not a huge difference on E90's.

And an alternative that is a little quicker, but will throw a shadow code (user revlis)

Oh wtf. The prompts are totally different for IE vs Chrome. Yet another reason IE blows.

Either way, there are the two methods for doing the 'golf tee' mod. I did it myself with just zip ties and for being free, you can't complain about the results.

Yes, IE auto parses the links making them url tags without realizing someone might want to use the link as an IMG tag on a forum... too smart for its good, way to go microsoft.

The other reason behind it is on startup, it stays closed while the cams are retarded to further assist in lighting the cats off for a reduced cold start emissions. I plug the line because i like the way tye surge feels when boost comes. on..leaving that flapper working actuallt eliminates that turbo feel, making it seamless..which i hate.
