    official thread for Formula 1

so i was thinking it would be good if we could gather all F1 related threads and make it a one piece section for F1.

So the Australian GP is done ,it made me be awaked but it wasn't that exciting a i wished.
Anyway as usual RedBull gave Vettel wings to fly again .it was an easy race for him since he had pole position and kept the 1st position all the way. Congrats to him for a very good start.
the big surprise of this GP was Petrov which clearly did his best and edged the SLOW Alonso by 1.2 sec , and i'm sure this result showed how lucky Renault was. they lost a good driver to get a better one. Congratulations to him and Renault.

    1.Sebastian Vettel 1:29:30.259
    2.Lewis Hamilton +22.3 sec
    3.Vitaly Petrov +30.5 sec
    4.Fernando Alonso +31.7 sec
    5.Mark Webber +38.1 sec
    6.Jenson Button +54.3 sec
    7.Sergio Perez +65.8 sec
    8.Kamui Kobayashi +76.8 sec

where the hell was Schumacher ?

Big surprise today was Perez, in his debut race.
Only 1 stop, which nobody thought possible with these Pirelli tires. Sauber has found something to make these tires work for them without degradading them!
And of course the stupid decision of the Mc Laren team to not let Massa back in front. That $#@!ed up Button's race and gave him a 23 second penalty. He made all that time + traffic to eventually pass Massa.
I think Kubica would have done a lot better with the Renault. He is and always has been on another level alltogether as Petrov. Although Petrov really stepped up today!
Stupid idea to hold this race on the beginning of summer time. It's already an early race, now I had to get up 1 hour earlier still Click here to enlarge
Very impressive from Vettel. Trouble free from start to finish, not even bothered to have KERS installed, which everyone else needed to keep up.

Schumacher, well that was no real surprise. Got mixed up in turn 1 after the start, had a puncture, and after a tire change the car felt different in left turns compared to right turns, he claimed. So after 20 laps he quit.
His teammate Rosberg got rammed by Barichello (what was he thinking?) and that ended the Mercedes efforts for today.

The only exciting part of the race was watching Button try to get by Massa early in the race.

Button still passed Massa later in the race, even after the penalty.

You are complaining about air times for races. Do you realize what time some of races are on in the US? Was able to watch this one live, it was on at 11pm.

I'd settle for 11 PM at any saturday to watch F1.
I had to get up at 6:30 in a sundaymorning, which was 5:30 because of the summertime change.
Believe me, you were better of.

Just about every other race during the season is on here at 3-5am (west coast US).

Tonight was just one of the very few races I get to watch live. Usaully I have to record it on DVR.

Ah, yes, there you have a point Click here to enlarge
Normally the races in Europe start here at 14:00. Kinda wrecks your whole sunday every other week though.
Watching a race on DVR is boring most of the time, because you miss the live timing.
I always watch with my laptop besides me so I can see what is going on on the track, and tracking the performance, gains, losses and pitting of cars real time instead of being at the mercy of a television broadcast.
For live timing go th www.formula1.com and subscribe to live timing. I wouldn't want to miss it for the world. They have an Andrios app for it as well now, so you can watch it live on your phone.

    Great idea for a thread!
Yeah, Vettel was very strong, but is he beginning to lose it in the head compertment? After taking pole he reported back to the crew something about, we are who we are! Horner just laughed and had no idea what he was talking about.... Click here to enlarge

Must say i'm impressed with mclaren this weekend. The car seemed to be much faster then everybody thought when they arived down there.

Also, i liked the rule changes. This race there where actually people pasing eachother...

Looking forward to rest of the season!

I think Christian knew exactly what Vettel ment. Vettel was just cocky, he ment they are world champions and he just showed that, but Christian wouldn't say that to Jack.

Okay. Didn't get that, but if he's just beeing cocky it's cool.

How is it, do you have a favourite team/driver? I've been a Hamilton fan since i saw this episode of top gear.

well when it comes to being cock F1 beat almost every other sports , but some drivers are truly nice guys like Barichello.
i don't have a favorite driver , my all time favorite is Hakkinen which was a really skillful driver.
my favorite team is RBR , because they came from nowhere and now they beat others , i really respect them.

    I disagree.
There were lots of highlights in this race. It was fun to.watch, the philosophy of the Pirelli tires came clear, Webber went for a 4 stopper. The combination of kers and the movable rearwing gave lots of overtakings. The launch of Perez where the steering mechanics broke need more investigation, and was.spectacular to watch.
All in all a fun race with lots of positionchanges.
Tire degradation played a big part in that.
Pitty the rain didn't pushed through. That would have given even more spectacle.
    Looking forward to next week!

what was wrong with Webber ? he's car seemed to be much slower than others !
and Heidfield did a great job on that jump , overall it was the best grandprix so far.

Webber's KERS didn't work from the start, so his getaway at the start was compromised by al the cars with a working KERS. Vettel was ordered to no longer use his KERS halfway through the race btw.
Both Renaults had a great start. But Petrov allready knew this circuit from his F2 career. That helped him choose position for the first corner.
Yes, it was exiting to watch, and China also has a long staight, so the combo KERS/ DRS / slipstream should give plenty of overtaking there as well Click here to enlarge

Wow.... Webber just missed Q2, running hard tires, and no KERS in Q1. Feel really sorry for him now. He'll be starting from P18 in the race tomorrow.
