Lightbulb N54 Tune Comparison Chart (Detailed)

    UPDATED!

So here it is guys and girls... This is a comparison chart to compare the popular tunes out for the n54 engine. For those of you that are ready to buy a tune for your vehicle (BMW 135, 335, 535, X635i, Z435i), this comparison chart will help you narrow down to the tune of your choice. The chart is in .PDF format so you can go to links associated with the text. This chart goes in detail and defines all the properties of these tunes. On the second page, you will find a breakdown on the features that the JB4 and PROcede v5 have. Both camps have contributed to this chart as well as reviewed it for accuracy.

I'll be collecting new data as time goes by and tuners come up with more features and improvements to implement to their respective tunes. The chart will be updated accordingly. That said the features listed in the chart are what is currently available in the market.

    Disclaimer:
Anything aftermarket can void your warranty. Read your new vehicle warranty carefully before deciding to start upgrading your vehicle.
You are protected under the Magnusson Moss Warranty act which states that a dealer must prove that a specific modification is causing an issue before refusing warranty service. This means that they cannot outright void the warranty because you have an aftermarket mod but must prove that for instance a blow off valve is causing engine problems.

Inserted images inline so they would resize.

I'm going to close the other thread and put this one in its place if that is ok with everyone.

    Nicely done!

Thank you for the new chart.

I'm going to be ordering my tune within the next week - to arrive just after my yearly service appointment.

JB4 and Cobb are my candidates - leaning toward JB4 (proven, and support!).

Sure will! I've given myself one week from today to make a decision and hit the order button.

Cobb should mention the current stages 1 & 2+ in the column

Dinan Stage 2 is now $1799

Dinan Stage 3 is now $2199 (Dinan FMIC and Dinan OC required at additional costs)

If you and others feel that way then it should be removed altogether from the tune comparison list.

Why? Just because I feel Dinan is expensive does not mean they should not be included in a comparison.

Is DINAN safer or are you just paying for the name?

Makes less power and costs more.

Why is Cobb basically totally blank? Excuse the noob question... but I'm really between the JB4 and the Cobb Accessport. Leaning towards Cobb because the car is still under factory warranty/maintenance and its the easiest to remove without a trace as far as I understand it.

Maybe it's just me, but the top HP numbers should be noted with what turbo upgrade they were achieved with. You've got the JB4 & COBB cars in the 500 range, using RBs. And then you've got the PROcede in 600s using the Single Turbo.

Anyone who's on the forums or is active in the N54 tuning community will know how this was achieved, but this chart primarily serves new owners looking to make a tune decision who can be easily deceived just by looking at that chart & thinking the JB4, COBB & PROcede numbers were achieved under the same conditions.
