Stock N55 dyno graph and video on pump gas after PAW mild flash tune, steptronic and manual

Here are two flash tunes that were recently completed by PAW Motorsport for a couple customers. The first car is a completely stock 2011 335 other than the flash tune. The car is a 6 speed manual and is running 93 octane pump fuel. The second car is a 2011 automatic 335 also dyno'd on pump gas. As you can see, large gains throughout the entire curve on both cars. Remember, this is just the mild pump tune. Contact PAW Motorsport if interested.

-Max. power increased of 50-49 Hp SAE at the wheels
    from 3000 - 5,600 revolutions per minute.
-Max. torque of 85-65 FtLb at the wheels from 3,000 -
    4,600 revolutions per minute
-Top speed and/or Rev limit increased at customer request.
-Improved engine map cooling to handle the extra
performance & improved reliability for long term use.
    -Performance clearly confirmed by actual
measurements on chassis dynometer and road tested.
-Pure driving enjoyment with smooth & spontaneous
    responsiveness.
-No compromise of emissions standards, & fuel
economy sacrifices of cars with similar performance.
-4 Year Limited warranty on DME software.

Great job guys! Click here to enlarge

The rev limit increase would probably be useless for stock turbos though. Power is already falling down after 5,500RPM, torque is dropping after 4,000RPM and that turbo is doing the best it can to keep up. Plus, I'm not sure how well the bottom end and Valvetronic would hold up spinning to say, 7,800RPM, but I'm no expert either.

Well PAW should be able to shed more light on this.

Rev limit will be increased at customer request. The stock B03 Borg Warner turbo choke & surge line still very well within the islands & a bit more boost on the Dyno it's no issue to get the 350wHP. Just have to wait till 2-3 month Summer final reliability feedback test at the tracks before we decide to release Mild Tune 1.5 & be a happy camper. Unlike just going for one time Dyno queens numbers & mass issues arising later on, we prefer good reliable tune for hardware.

When you say increased, you mean you will allow maybe 200RPM most, or more? (looks like almost 7200RPM on that run) Do you have a boost trace by any chance? What can you do to flatten out that torque curve near maximum safe engine speed? I thought maybe the turbo was getting near the choke line and torque started dropping as it heated up and/or manifold pressure dropped.

+ 1. I would like to know the advantages / disadvantages of increasing the rev limiter

Not a real advantage or disadvantage answer. Higher rev limiter it's only advantageous if you can put the engine speed in the more usable powerband during an upshift without hitting the revlimiter @ 7000rpm. An example (not the best one), you hit the revlimiter everytime when you drive on the track, you would loose aprox. less than a second & it can sum up in sec. loss when you do a lap time. Owners can chose to do or not do the revlimiter on the 6psd. On Steptronic cars, there's no point at the moment in changing rev. limiter.

Rev. limiter will benefit more for added performance hardware changes such as cylinder head work, cams, turbine upgrade, etc. But at the moment, user will just use it for avoiding contact @ 7000rpm.

You got it =) The BW turbo it's way within the efficiency islands & will do more, but that is what the manf. has set it at to produce 300hp at crank.
Now, the increased pressure ratio will provide an amount of lbs/min (kg/h) thus more torque power safely it's what we are interested on & easy. But, other factors such as heat, detonation, wear, etc. will come into play. The time that it's required for the R&D and if we were to release it too soon it should not be a final product with good outcome. Not just a Dyno give an end result w/o real world test.

Also, to flatten the torque from +4000-7000rpm which will translate into Hp gains. We will release into Mild Tune 1.5 in the next aprox. 2 month or more until satisfied. If a TUV standard for tuning in the USA was to be set, it will not take 1 day tune or dyno to be the best engine hardware reliable tune IMO.

I have a car that has full bolt ons, where are these guys located? If they are within driving distance I might see if they are down to do some work on a car that breathes a little easier.

Would this work on an X5 with the N55 as well?

We have to think of how to make this happen for him.

Hmmm, only one car but he wants the flash. Surely something can be worked out, I would have to ask PAW what the turnaround could be. I think overnight maybe possible.

Ive worked out something with him. He is in the military, and he lives in Yonkers I believe. He is asking for a week leave to go to PR with his wife....during that time I will be taking the truck to Fabspeed to have a one off DP made (its different than an e9x pipe, its just one large 3.25" opening at the end) and while its there i will be pulling the DME and possibly sending it to PAW...the truck has a custom rear exhaust fabbed up by yours truly and welding done by a friend of mine.

I still have to put the AR downpipe in the shop car, as well as get his special XI Vanguard fitment setup done....then off to PAW Click here to enlarge
