@Sticky That's what i thought, just an isolated incident. I talked to a local tech at BMW recently and he just said they were aware of the issue. Dont hear ppl post about it for the N54 though.

    That's what confuses me too.

I mean, we have essentially three motors with a similar design. The N54, N55, and S55.

On the S55, we see the hub issue far more often.

The N54 avoids it much better or at least it has until recently with higher power builds showing issues.

I don't really know what to think and I don't even really understand WTF BMW is doing.

Just a guess, higher RPM = more stress exasperates the issue.

The GC puts down so much low end torque, the increased transient response (how quickly the revs climb) puts extra stress on the sprocket and spins it.

The motor itself is fine, just the crank hub. Once you build these they can take a lot of power, and tq. I have no problems with this motor going in, then all my issues stemmed from it slipping once, and it messing up the crank

If I'm understanding correctly you need a new crank and hub?

Why is a spinning crank hub a death sentence for the motor in other situations?

Dude! I was thinking the same thing. If I could rep you I would.
Back in my DSM days we would have crank bolts back out at high HP. There were three known solutions, key it, safety wire or tack weld all of course with some red loctite.
