N54 DCT TCU Flash - Do we have any options?

Hello friends, I realize that we have a S65 (M3 GTS) TCU flash for the DCT, as well as both the N54 and N55 versions of the Alpina B3 TCU flash for the normal automatic transmission.

I realize that there is also a 135is DCT TCU flash that shifts the launch control RPM point down, but is there anything that yields better performance?

Typically, Alpina TCU flash improves shifting times, which is also what the M3 GTS DCT flash does for S65, as well as other things like quicker "reverse" shift without any delays.

I wanted to start a thread so we can discuss this:What are our options for the N54 DCT TCU flashes in terms of better characteristics, and if we don't have anything, how do we obtain a better flash?

Please keep the discussion related to the N54 and DCT, as I know there are already lots of other threads about TCU flashes for other configurations.

Just wanted to see if there is something for my E92 335is N54 DCT TCU, and wanted to hear everyone's thoughts.

I too am interested in this... My 335is could get some waking up in the DCT programming department.

Does the 135is flash help in the responsiveness area?

The m3 gts software would actually load into the 335i DCT.

unfortunately the GWS would not work because of the physical shift pattern.

First thing would be to pull the ZB# of your current flash. Is it the original or have you been updated? From there you can try the latest flash for the 335is DCT which is ZB# 8606074 and see if you notice any improvement. Alpina flashes won't work on a DCT, different ECU.

If you're having a problem with the speed of your shifts, etc. maybe look at your tune (if you have one) or a hardware issue as the culprit. On a JB4 my car shifted like crap. On a properly dialed in flash tune my shifts are flawless whether I'm running a 335is flash or the 135is flash that I'm currently using.

This is what I've been looking for... Did you replace the GWS with the M3 one ? What do you mean when you say the "physical shift pattern" ; Did you mean shift points or ?

I'm using 8647889 on my Z4 DCT. It's the latest GS40 flash for cars with the "2TC - Sport transmission w/ dual-plate clutch” option. Seems to shift better than the original 8606082 file and doesn't suffer with the usual hesitation at junctions and reverse lag that people complain about.

What confuses me is that 8647889 uses a different hardware file (8647462A) to the original (8606066A) but the flash works without any issues. The M3 DCT flash uses different hardware files again but has the 2MK drivelogic option rather than 2TC so I think that's why people are claiming it doesn't work.

I'm really curious to see what happens with the M3 GTS flash on a Z4 or 335is. I may do it myself when I get a spare weekend.

You're launching an N55 at 5000 rpm? That's freaking incredible and I'd love to see a vid.

I wonder if that would improve the shift speed as well?

The whole point of the gts mode is the faster 90 msec shifts yes but the thing that will also help is that it's a known quantity in terms of vendors can alter shift speed and launch rpm on the m3 DCTs..... and who doesn't want that right ?

where do you find the hardware numbers? Also I think because 2mk and 2tk are part of the VO we may need to change those as well.
red bean bun said he'd tried it but the shifts were wrong or something.... also.... there's another thread on here that I can't post a link to titled N54/N55 DCT upgrade where I've activated drive logic in my CIC which would mean if we get the m3 software loaded we can change shift severity on the fly..... happy days !

I have a program you might want to try called FindECU. It will give you all the available ZB's for a ECU, hardware #'s, etc. PM me and I'll get it to you

If it's the GTS file then shouldn't it be adjustable too like the GTS launch?

The launch is adjustable on the fly via the cruise control stalk but it can only go + or - 500 rpm. Vendors can also change it though.

So today i tried the alternative launch control method...I can't take the credit - This isn't mine - i just found it in a couple of different forums written in different ways

The 135is software holds launch RPM at 3500 rpm which is a little high for cars with even modest power levels but....
theres an alternate method that allows the RPM to be changed....

    Foot firmly on the brake
Hit DTC button to engage DTC (dynamic traction control)
In drive move shifter to left and select 1st gear
    Engage sport mode
Nail throttle past the kick down
Launch control is enabled , revs stay steady at 3600 rpm and car is ready to launch..Ordinarily at this point release the brake and hold on!

Instead of releasing the brake though, release the throttle until the cars revs drop to a lower level and when your happy with the RPMs _ then release the brake...
Viola ! Adjustable RPM launch control !

Can anyone verify this cheat code? I have a feeling we would have heard of it before.

I have to lol. I've had more than one person say that they are surprised that I didn't know this method already...
The fact is that there isn't one concise area that this is all posted in and so you have to spend a lot of time on fooruns or know exactly the right thing to search for.
Maybe this can be that place ?
