Is it possible to swap M exhaust manifold on 550i?

As the title suggest I'm wondering if you can simply swap in the M exhaust manifold that BMW created for the S63 engine in the X5M and X6M? I'm pretty sure it will bolt on to the engine just fine as the block is the same but BMW also changed the turbos and I don't know if the housing is different. Perhaps someone on here with more knowledge can clear this up. As for what I'm hoping to achieve well it would help reduce lag and provide a more linear power curve but I don't think it would make that big of a difference in the short term. Only by putting on larger turbos and upping the boost significantly will it really be worth it. Reason I'm looking at it now is I'm having doubts about getting the dinan flash if big power is really what I'm after but there isn't much else out there now to do on this engine. Have the dinan money and the manifold is the same cost and if I don't use it now wife will! Chime in everyone.

    Some background on the manifold:

that would be tough to say..link doesnt work though.

From what I understand is that the manifolds are one piece with the turbine housing? I would say bolt on the entire S setup (turbos and manifolds) to get the best results...the S motors make 20psi or so, so putting these on and redoing the boost maps would net some significant power.

Ok link should work now. Basically as I understand it the manifold crosses from one bank of cylinders to the other and are designed so the turbos are constantly being pulsed so lag is significantly reduced. The reason I wouldn't want to get the stock s turbos is that I've read they are quite limited so if I'm gonna swap out my turbos perhaps some bigger than the S63's might be the way to go.

I see no reason why physically everything from the S63 would not bolt up to the N63.

Maybe, maybe not.......I only hope you have a great ECU guru to help with it........

That has been the hardest part. Dinan has a flash but would not take into account anything I do that doesn't come from them. Other than that I havent found anyone I think could help.

Sticky yeah I'm pretty sure if I swapped both the manifold and the turbos from the S63 everything should work but I dont want to buy the S63 turbos as from some of the threads you've posted on here as well as others on the internet it seems they are a little limited I'd rather push these stock ones as far as I can and then see which would be the best upgrade. Thats where my doubts begin as being different turbos I dont know if they would bolt up correctly, I'm not that knowledgeable about this. The Bmw dealer is more than willing to sell me that manifold but can assure me of a damn thing and someone else brought up the point that if sensors are in different positions on each manifold it may throw me a CEL. I dont want to drop 2k on the manifold till I'm sure it works.

You should stick with the stock setup then and just tune it. The N63 turbos aren't capable of what the S63 turbo are though.

Nobody has done this yet and it likely isn't as easy as just bolting the parts up. The tuning would be a problem. I think your best bet is to tune your car the way it is, add some meth, push it as far as it will go and then wait for the aftermarket to pan out. This is uncharted territory.

I wonder if someone can find information on the S63 vs N63 turbos, compressor maps and stock boost levels would be nice.
Some people live long, meaningful lives.

Other people eat shit and die.

I'm not racist, I hate everybody equally; especially fat people.

I had an awesome PDF with some of this info but I can't find the damn thing.

The compression ratios are different as well... keep that in mind.

Are you still pursuing this? If I'm reading this right, the both M turbos and exhaust mani can be had for ~$3,300...

Interesting, according to that you can order the parts but is it just as simple as slapping the hardware on?

I can't imagine it would be, but interesting to know that hardware swaps are feasible once more tuners bring solutions to the market.

Just found this doc (I love the interweb) that has some pretty cool technical details and comparisons between the N63 and S63, starting on page 2.

I had this document and lost it and I have been looking for it since. Thank you!
