I agree here...those are solid renderings, and it's definitely a body style I'd be interested in, if I were going to go with a 3 series next time around, which I am likely not.

Everyone and their mom has a BMW.
BMW has made it clear that they are expanding into other avenues, and become more big business, but this shouldn't surprise anyone. Mercedes has been doing it for a while (although via different badges), and BMW needs to do it in order to compete in the other markets, where there is money to be made. They don't want to lose their chance at making that profit. The downside is they're doing it the wrong way, in diluting the brand.

Regarding seeing BMWs all over, I really think it depends on where you live. I know *I* see them all the time, but I live in a place that it sort of makes sense....and even still, my diesel is still 1 of a kind, even though I've seen about 10 others around here....nobody has one that looks like mine. I'll take that exclusivity all day long (and I *love* my car, not because of its exclusivity, but for the love of GOD it's fun to drive).

Oh, and $#@! nuclear power. Yeah, let's bury giant containers of radioactive, ionizing waste underground that has a half-life of a million years, that's safe and green.
Electric cars may stop harmful emissions, but up until recently, they were 100x more toxic to the environment, due to what it it required just to make the batteries (and then there's the disposal due to the short lifespan). For example, only with the 3rd generation Prius did Toyota finally figure out a better way to manufacture, and make more efficient, the batteries that power the Prius.

The Jetta TDI sells like hotcakes...I see them all the time. There is no reason for BMW not to bring over a 150hp diesel to compete, and I have a strong belief that it will sell well. There are some definite pluses for it becoming an econo-car, and that won't take away from those people who still want their turbos and their gas engines (or their turbo diesels, for that matter), or their M's.

BMW is positioning themselves here to make a pretty smart business move, just later than they probably should have. Keep your eyes out, and watch the #'s.

This is the key, brand dilution and taking it downscale.

The BMW brand has been diluted, the M brand, and now they are going to do some FWD city car abortion. It's over, BMW is now Toyota.

I've said this many times, we have no one to blame but ourselves. Well, as a whole 'ourselves' means all the 16 year old jessicas that want daddy to buy them a BMW. So daddy goes out and buys them an X3 because jessicas friend katie has mommies Audi.

Demand is what drives a market, it is never the other way around.

We have become the society of 'gimme it right now, I want a cheap BMW land barge SUV' so, BMW has no choice but to answer by producing what the consumer wants. If the consumer wanted BMW to make toilets they would do that too, damn, right about now I would rather have a BMW toilet than a FWD failcar.

Man, I would love it if someone could give me some rep points. Apparently you can't view certain threads on this website unless you have 10 rep points, but, you also can't help other people get rep points until you have at least 100 rep points. Let's think, if everyone on here starts with 0 rep points, how would anyone ever get rep points?

Your response in this thread indicates otherwise. If you work with the fuel itself, that may mean you know how dirty it can be in raw form, and even post processed, but that doesn't make you an expert in how current gen sedans/coupes/whathaveyou that make diesel vehicles cleaner than any pure gas car as far as bi-products go. I'll express my opinion if you provide nothing to back yours up, because making a statement such as 'dirty ass diesels' tells me either you don't know jack about your job, or your job has nothing to do with the discussion at hand and you made a thick-headed statement because you work with the fuel in some capacity.

Either way, I'm not impressed, and would appreciate you either qualifying your statement a bit more clearly, explain to us what it is you do for a living (if you posted it, I don't recall seeing it, and I'm not going to go searching for it) that makes you an expert (since you've self-qualified yourself), or try to make yourself a bit more educated about the discussion at hand.

At DBFIU look at a prime EXAMPLE, China, cars are been diverted and exclusively redirectd to them because of the demand i.e. an M3 sells for $50k and in CHINA sells for $150K, guess where BMW and other companies will go for sales?

@ Sorena, we have TOTAL here in the island, just because you have dealt withing your business does not make ANYONE is an expert. I respect your position and commend you in it. Therefore WE ALL "cant't just get along", wasn't that was said by the guy who had his head BASHED IN , in California. LOL

I think a 150 HP diesel would be a great option. I love my 335d, however I think plenty of enthusiasts enjoy the handling balance and great dynamics versus pure power. Plus, the 40+ MPG would be attractive.

Toyota can't hold BMW's jockstrap and you all know it. What was the last 10 cylinder 500 HP Toyota you can think of? Exactly

How about what was the last Toyota that you drove that didn't make you want to gouge out your own eyeballs with a spoon? Exactly.
