Count me with as well with another +1, Mercedes is picking up BMW's slack and then some.

I told you I was right. They definitely need a 5 series coupe.

What they need is something priced better not a 5 series coupe. The 5 series coupe would be the exact same hardware and drivetrain, why would it be drastically cheaper being the same thing in a different skin?

A 5 series coupe would cost 2k more than a sedan and would be much lighter than a 6 series.

I see what you're saying, Sticky. Putting a different skin on the 6 coupe to turn it into a 5 coupe isn't going to magically make it cost 20k less. And if they instead decide to completely base it on the 3/5 architecture and re engineer it into a coupe, the costs associated with that are still going to make it significantly more expensive than the sedan.

Just because a 3 series coupe is 2k more than a sedan, does not mean that the 5 series will be priced that way.

    Based on what?

The only way that would work is if the 6 would be moved upscale to make room for it and for BMW to through naming convention away.

A 5 coupe makes no sense while the 6 exists. A 4 series would work though.

Thats just contradicting yourself. Sticky have you completed college? I wonder what your major is. You have no reasoning skills.

It doesn't matter what name you give it. If it is 4 or 5 series. A coupe in between the 3 series coupe and the 6 series is needed in BMW's range.

BMW needs a less expensive coupe price similar to the E Class Coupe and Audi A5.

Mercedes seemed to have pulled it off with E-coupe (C/E architecture), cheaper than a E-sedan.

Wonder if the C-coupe will be cheaper than the C-sedan?

I'm not contradicting myself at all and I do not think you should be questioning my education.

A coupe between the 3 and 5 is not needed. Look at what happened the last time BMW tried to create a 5 series variant, the GT, epic failure. A mirror of the 6 series, which is what a 5 coupe would be, is pointless.

The 335 is the A5 rival for the last time. The E-coupe is essentially the CLK, also a C-platform car.

A 5 coupe is not an answer to anything. The M3 coupe already fits in below the 650i. Maybe what BMW needs is an M variant of the Z more than anything else?

I can question your education. I speak 4 languages and I am working on my second Major.

You need to understand that a lot of people would like a more upscale coupe than a 3 series but cant go as high up as a 6 series. Those are the ones that buy S5s an E coupes.

No, you can't, not with that.

So why doesn't the M3 meet those needs? It is what, $72k loaded? Where is this other coupe supposed to come in? 650 is 90+, so where does this other car get slotted so that it is not redundant considering the 6 or 3 series?

The only way this works, again, is with the 6 not existing or becoming an 8.

The E-coupe is less than an M3. The S5 isn't a 6 competitor but lines up well with the 3 since there is no 2 door A4.

Oh really. What have you done. Given that we know nothing about you except that your parents have funded you and that you solely rely on them. It is very difficult for me to believe you are out of college or that you posses anything of your own.

You tend to do this sometimes, when the topic gets too tough you start attacking people.

Look, if you feel you are more educated ( Click here to enlarge ) or special good for you. I don't need to go out of my way to try to put you down and I have no desire to. My parents this or that? Huh? Not the topic here and I'm sure your parents have nothing to do with your education or anything in your life for that matter. Considering you admit you know nothing about me kind of stupid for you to make assumptions like you just did. I could care less about your undergraduate degrees, wow so impressive, try to focus on the topic unless your oh so impressive education (at some impressive school no doubt) prevents that?

And you want to get to know me better by attempting to put me down baselessly by dismissing the questions about the topic and going OT to trying to make things personal? I think the butthurt is the other way around but once again, I don't care, back on topic.

Anyways, from a business standpoint (not a hard core car enthusiast standpoint) a 5 series coupe makes a good business case.

Yep, the C-coupe and the E-coupe will be a little redundant. The CLK being dissolved at least helps the matter as Benz did balance C-coupe and the CLK previously although those cars were priced very differently. It is far closer this time around.
