The injectors are stamped with 2d bar codes that have serial numbers. They know the good ones and defective ones. We scan them into a database and it sorts out which are good and which are bad. So far so good, no problems after repairs.

I have a misfire issue and I've asked why I didn't get any injectors replaced. Other than "b/c your vin didn't call for it", I've been told that I may eventually get called in for replacements but, since they can't do everyone's car at once due to a lack of inventory, I'll have to either wait my turn or pay to have them replaced - and that's not even guaranteed to fix my problem. Despite the fact I'm having misfires, they still can't replace them under recall, so I would have to pay. Click here to enlarge

Finally got my car back today. I was supposed to have it back yesterday but they ran into some trouble updating the DME.
So Fresh HPFP, 3 Injectors and Software update. Car feels really good in Map 0 (bypass JB4) and map 2 feels great!

So my car finally came up for the injector recall. I have an appointment for next Monday. Another thing I learned today after the hour drive- although the warrenty covers oil changes, it does not cover topping off the oil. Motul it is then

I had both recalls (HPFP and Injectors) done last week. They pullled all 6 injectors and replaced ONE. They run all part #s and the computer tells the tech which ones should be replaced. New O-rings and gaskets upon reinstall.

Alright although the SA told me I got 6 new injectors I'm looking at my receipt now and it says specifically 'removed, checked and refit all 6 injectors'. Sigh. So they decided to swap my hpfp that has been good to go for 43k miles, but left my possibly bad injectors. Also, anyone know anything about hpfp part number 13 51 7 616 170?

    How's this......

After taking my car to the shop 3x, twice to the dealership which is where it's at today, they're NOW telling me my misfire issue is due to defective injectors; they want to replace 5 out of 6 injectors and probably not the 6th b/c I had it replaced already due to a broke tab (which is why they now want to replace the other 5). BUT.....they won't replace them under the recall b/c my car hasn't been flagged for it (yet). I'll have to pay my deductible (and hopefully nothing more).

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about trying to get BMW to flag my car for the injectors under the recall? I've called customer service twice and both times they said my car isn't flagged, so it can't be covered. I don't get it - I'm having injector problems, so why not cover them under the recall?

Absurd but common sense isn't their forte. It eventually will be flagged for it I would think but who knows when that will be. I say if time matters to you get it done, pay, and then try to get reimbursed.

If you car falls within the production years for the recall I would call BMWNA and see if they could get someone to add your VIN to the system quick. Without being in the system, they can't/won't do the work under warranty. I do think there was a post by a guy that paid out of pocket, his VIN popped up later, and they were able to reimburse him. Don't quote me on that though.

    Excellent suggestion.

Also, state you will give the dealer all 1's on their evaluation. They actually take that stuff seriously and may "accommodate" you.

My car is at the dealership now, in pieces, waiting for an inspector to come look at it and give them the 'ok' to do the work on behalf of my warranty company. It's covered under the warranty, but it just doesn't make sense to have to use them when the part is already under a current recall. I've called BMW customer service twice and all they're telling me is that my car has no open recalls on it so they can't/won't cover it.

I'm sure I'll get reimbursed if/when I qualify for the recall b/c that happened to me w/my Audi. I just shouldn't have to go through the headache and hassle.

Edit: Just got off the phone w/BMW customer service - again - and the lady wanted to get a lil' snappy w/me. After listening to her repeat herself several times w/o really answering my question, I was able to get out of her that the national hwy safety admin is responsible for issuing recalls. So, I contacted them and they offered to file a complaint on my behalf, then told me I should really contact the manufacturer b/c they're the ones who come up w/the recalls. Umm.......

So, I doubt my claim will get reviewed and decided on before I get my car back, but if they find my complaint legit and extend my vin to include the injector portion of the recall, then I should be able to request a refund sooner than later. However, not sure if BMW will then flag my vin due to a complaint.

    Update on my situation:
I have to have 5 injectors replaced. Definitely should be what's causing my misfire - considering #2 has a massive compression leak (explains my misfire in cyl2 code). Also found out that the dealership who replaced the injectors last year didn't include the decouplers. Hmmm....that's probably why ALL of the tabs on the injectors have broke off (which, by the way, is the very reason why I had an injector replaced a few months ago during some work; broke tab). Fortunately, my extended warranty is going to take care of the expense, minus my deductible. I'm working on trying to get the other dealership to pay my deductible for their mistake. From the people I've talked to, it might work out. Either way, I can't wait to get my car back and "drive like I stole it" (words from the tech as a suggestion on how to reduce carbon build up, of which I have very little of unpon inspection of my valves). We'll see Monday....

I don't see why they wouldn't pay it especially if you have proof.

The "other" dealership says they'll get back to me once they've reviewed the paperwork from the injector fix and what they have in their records. We'll see! Hmmm....

Wow they really are making you run the gauntlet. Sounds like you've got your problem figured out at least and know your carbon situation, so there's a silver lining.

Damn it, I've never had any problems with my HPFP so of course they had to give me an old one. I didn't see any on the reciept they gave me, but I'll just take a pic of what I've got and put it up when I get home.
