Well he is sending people he lied too about BB internals free turbos, so that's a good start. I mean anyone can decide enough is enough and try to clean it up. We shall see

Maybe but it's not like they have anything now. At least they could prevent him from scamming again if he's forced to shut down.

Thanks for the reply BigM62... I have been in business now for 7 years on my own, and in the same industry for 20 years. I have learned so much about the legalities of business its not even funny. Especially since the econ went bad after 08.. Sure you can take anyone you want into the court room. Put whatever you want on them - liens, judgements etc... , but until they bring back the firing squad (LOL), if the person or business has nothing, you will get nothing.. Period.. Sure their life might be hell for a few years, but what does it do for you? You just spent MORE money taking them to court to get nothing. Everyone can call me crazy - whatever.. SO I am trying a different approach - WHAT DO I HAVE TO LOSE? At least I'm not dumping more cash out the window into a losing gamble. So far he is at least been responsive, and we have talked from time to time - he helped fix my car via the phone. Hey great - maybe that was a $1,000 jackoff fix if I would have taken it to the dealer for them to scratch their nuts over??.. Its something. Do I wish the ball would roll faster.. Yes. But at this point its sufficing me and I am taking it how it comes. Excellent reply BigM62.. One more point - the court systems in the US should have a store front display. They sell you on big things - you get into their mix, and at the end of the day you end up not in court, but settling for way less and owing the "system" more cash. Its once in awhile that people win big in court - sort of like a lottery system. Live and learn my friends.

^ Just wishing you the best M5Junky. What others also don't realize is our legal system is run by lawyers whose first goal is to make money for themselves and afterwards their clients IMHO.

This is why I don't want to be a lawyer and would just prefer to be happy.

Many people get away with screwing others over because there is an inherent fear of the court system, as if every case ever is super expensive, time consuming, and will drain everyone but the lawyers of money. This isn't always the case. Such an example comes with the RIAA/MPAA settlement cases. A few people were made examples out of, while the vast majority of people could just say "I will ignore your letter" and nothing happened. It doesn't hurt to consult someone. If no lawyer has, at the very least, been consulted on the issue and the feasibility of a case, then general speculation over how a certain case will go isn't really helping anyone. Lawyers aren't always out to get you.

I should have said some lawyers. As one told me last year, "Like in a poker game, we try and bet on a winning hand". This is for contingency cases. Hourly fees on the other hand are from what, $400 to $800 an hour?

There is no possible way oddjob is anyone but Abid, after a few pages I find it incredibly difficult to believe it is anyone else.

This really is a terrible situation, what is worse for me is that this was committed by a paying advertiser. Long time VWVortex user and years ago they locked down any group buys, marketed products etc. to paying advertisers only. The catalyst for that was a few large group buys that went south with thousands lost.

Sadly this does not stop the present scenario from playing out. I have a similar story with a somewhat solid outcome, maybe it will help Click here to enlarge

In 2007 I delivered a MK4 R32 to a local body man (Bloomington, IN at the time) who I had met through a close friend who had worked with him. He had a full shop out of his home, certified to do insurance work, seemed like a solid deal. I had begun a project and completed the body work, laid a coat of primer and decided I wanted a professional hand to do the final prep and paint the car.

We discussed the project in-depth, so far as to have him come to my home with his partner to confirm all work was done well and it was up to his level. At this point Im in hook line and sinker, "This guy is not messing around!" I think to myself. I have a flatbed come to pick up the car one weekend and deliver it to his shop. That day I pull the motor and trans for him and drop off a $3000 deposit. I have never prepaid for bodywork but he came highly recommended and I wanted to light a fire.

As the weeks go on I check in a few times, he has been busy but he did a bit of work doing the final blocking on the passenger side. More weeks pass and I end up in a very similar situation as you, I have this guys back, I want to see him finish my car, I want to believe in him. This would bite me in the ass as time went out.

Every time I stop by he is doing this project, or that project, or his kids have some problem. If I do get him to engage me he ends up trailing off like he was high (turns out he was, pain killers, which he later admitted to taking for "Inspirational" reason) about all these plans and ideas he had and how perfect the car was going to end up.

I get a call that he is heading in to pickup the color, final supplies etc and will have the car finished soon but he needs some more money. Like an idiot I give him another $1500. A few weeks later, we are now at one year, I go to his home to pick up some parts and my car is sitting outside uncovered in raw primer.

    WTF.

His wife is there and I mention that I need to pull some items from the car, she apologizes that he is not here, you can tell she knows something is up. I grab the parts and head home, I return the next day to catch him there. Very much like your story I was met with a shocking response.

"I got a real problem with you coming onto my property without me around, if it happens again I am calling the police."

At this point I am livid, I tell him he needs to pull my car into his shop, set the motor back in and refund my money. There was about $200 worth of block work done however considering my time lost and the cost of hauling the car back and forth this guy owes me $4500. His response is that there is no way in hell that car is coming back into his shop, I need to come pick up the drivetrain and car. I don't know if anyone has ever tried to load a 3.2 VR6 with trans onto a flatbed in a muddy field, it ain't fun.

At this point in time I just want the car out of his possession, I will sort the money out later. The next day as I am picking the car up he actually tries to chum it up with me... Finally as we strap down the drivetrain he hands me an envelope with $900. I just paid $4500 for over a year of waiting and some blocking. Ill save the banter but his attitude was very much like our friend oddjob. His logic, or lack there of, made it incredibly difficult to talk to him. You would discuss a point and he would focus on something that had no relation to what I was presenting him. If he talked about body lines one more time...

I am not getting anywhere with him now, he seems to be falling apart. I should have seen the writing on the wall, his stalling and delays were not the sign of a perfectionist, he was just out of his league. The one somewhat sane mind in all of this was his wife. I knew her from the local credit union I used, ironically I pulled out cash FROM HER to give to her crook husband.

In a last ditch effort I pay her a visit and ask to talk, I lay out the story and explain that I will continue pursuing this until my money is returned. In the end I finally got my money back but the damn guy was such a coward he made his wife drop it off to me.

In all it was almost two years of wasted time, I honestly can't believe I got the money back. I hope y'all the best in this for sure.

    That's a hell of a story man.

Regardless, at some point you just have to cut your losses.

At least in your case you got the money back.

And @George Smooth hasn't received his money back either. Sad to see somehow ASR remains in business.

He resolved his not paying me back because I went public. Even though he paid over US$500 after I had gone public.

Hopefully people learn from this. I don't know what else it would take. If people are stupid enough at this point to do business with him they deserve whatever happens.
