HPG MKVI Golf R vs. a PP-Performance tuned F13 M6, Lamborghini Gallardo LP560, and Mercedes CLS63 AMG standing kilometer drag races

A Volkswagen Golf R going up against a tuned F13 M6? Sounds like a mismatch and normally it would be if this particular Golf R did not the have the HGP 3.6 liter VR6 turbo package. HGP Golfs have shown great results against stout opposition such as a Ferrari 458 Speciale, tuned Nissan GTR, and an Evo X with a turbo upgrade. The first race in the video has the M6 and HGP Golf square off and the Golf beats the M6.

It is important to note the Golf R has all wheel drive traction which really helps it as the 1/4 mile elapsed time of 10.672 for the Golf R versus 11.910 for the M6 shows. The Golf also beats the M6 to the kilometer marker getting there in 19.366 seconds whereas the M6 takes 20.770 seconds. The M6 is pulling harder at the kilometer marker by 2.5 miles per hour.

The next run has the HGP Golf go up against a stock Lamborghini LP560 Gallardo. Power is on the side of the Golf with its roughly 700 horses. The Gallardo gets a nice jump off the line but the Golf has no trouble running it down and passing it. The HGP Golf R is much quicker than the LP560 out trapping it by almost 20 KPH in the standing kilometer which is certainly impressive. A Golf clowning a Gallardo? Yep.

The final run is the HGP Golf versus a Gorilla Racing Stage 3 CLS63 with a claimed output of 840 horsepower. The CLS63 AMG should take the run based on that output figure but struggles with the Golf which beats it badly off the line. The CLS63 AMG can not make up the gap and is beaten soundly although it is pulling just under 6 KPH harder by the kilometer marker. From a roll the CLS63 AMG would win but if it can not run down the Golf in over a half mile, well, that shows just how impressive the HGP Golf is.

The HGP Golf R beats all three cars it goes up against and although it does not have the outright fastest trap speed it has plenty of power and is able to put its power to the ground. Sometimes that is more important than peak horsepower figures.

I think the weight of the VW made the difference.

It's not exactly super light but lighter than the CLS and M6, yes.

So the M6 was quicker than the Gallardo and the CLS?

Keep in mind their timing equipment is different. Obviously those cars are capable of better than 12's in the 1/4 mile.
