Porsche Macan Turbo vs. BMW F80 M3 standing kilometer drag race, who wins?

A sport utility vehicle against a BMW M car? The thought used to be absurd. The thought of Porsche producing an SUV used to be absurd too. Times have changed and now we have two Porsche SUV's with the Macan Turbo being the newest entry into the Porsche performance SUV lineup. Quite the entry it is with its 400 horsepower 3.6 liter V6 engine, all wheel drive, and 7-speed dual clutch PDK transmission.

On paper the two vehicles are close in power but the edge goes for the F80 M3 and the edge in power is considerable. First of all, the F80 BMW M3 is very underrated in its output. It is closer to 500 horsepower than 400 horsepower. It also is not sending power to all four wheels but the rear wheels making for lower drivetrain losses although it also makes it harder to launch off the line.

Both vehicles have dual clutch transmissions so that is a wash. The Macan is heavier by roughly 700 pounds. The way the race should play out is the Macan getting a slight lead and then the M3 should pull past it after second gear and keep pulling with relative ease.

That is exactly what happens. The M3 destroys the Macan Turbo which is no slouch with its 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, 0-100 in 11.1 seconds, and 13.1 second 1/4 mile. The M3 just has too big of a power to weight advantage with 0-100 coming in 8.6 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 12.4 seconds. Past 100 this is no longer a race especially as aerodynamics at higher speeds favor the M3.

Well this was informative... A sports car can beat a crossover SUV in a drag race. Another solid evo review

I don't know why you're being negative. It's a fun comparison to see considering how quick the Macan Turbo is. I expected the 1/4 mile to be a little closer but the M3 is just so underrated.

Sorry I like seeing realistic comparisons not one sided predictable beat downs. The Porsche is very quick for a SUV but we all saw this comming... On a side note I love that I can be a negative nancy and not get banned/ comments deleted like they do on other forums

Both slower than my X1 in the 1/4 ;p

New M3 is going to be a nasty $#@! though when tuned.

Of course but SUV's have evolve quite a bit. A drag race between a Porsche SUV and a BMW M car isn't the crazy idea it once was.
