Revo Technik Stage 3 Audi TT-RS vs. a tuned Corvette ZR1 and a tuned F13 M6 in the standing kilometer

The Audi TT-RS 2.5 liter turbocharged inline-5 gains quite a bit from tuning. The Revo Technik Stage 3 package which consists of ECU tuning and a turbo upgrade bumps the Audi TT-RS up to 530 horsepower at the crank. That is a very nice gain from the stock 360 horsepower but on paper it trails a modified Corvette ZR1 as well as a modified BMW F13 M6 quite a bit. How does it do in a standing kilometer against these two heavyweights?

Very well. The first run is against the ZR1 and the ZR1 gets smoked. The 1/4 mile sprint for the TT-RS takes only 10.4 seconds with the trap speed stated to be a blistering 134.266. That sounds like a bit of an inflated trap speed as the ZR1 only hits 131. This is likely explained by the timing equipment the Russians are using but regardless the TT-RS is hooking up much better holding off the ZR1 through the kilometer by over a second although by the mile marker it is finally pulling harder.

Against the M6 the TT-RS again gets off the line better and pulls another 10.4 second 1/4 mile sprint. The M6 manages a poor 12.404 1/4 mile sprint at 127.748 miles per hour. The M6 is not able to run down the TT-RS by the 1000 meter marker taking 21.397 seconds to the 19.263 for the TT-RS. The M6 traps under one KPH higher.

Very impressive performance from the TT-RS which sure seems to be putting out more than the claimed 530 horsepower.

I really wouldn't mind one of those TT-RS(es) - they are cool cars, and would be fun as heck. I am not a fan of AWD, but holy hell those things launch hard.

The issue with these cars are the 6 speed transmissions. They are giant pieces of $#@! in terms of holding even tuned power.

I would still rock one of these cars though.

That's a bummer. Seems like it was almost an afterthought for them to put the 6 speed in the car. I know people in the USA aren't fans of DSG, but I think sometimes these newer one-off cars are pretty much engineered around a specific certain drivetrain. Seems like a "risk" to take the manual option when it's not being offered in the country of manufacture. It's a shame they couldn't beef up the 6 speed and make everyone happy.

Yeah, and just noticed that the 6 speed was indeed a new one for this car... Not sure how they dropped the ball on that.

I think in general, it's only the purists that really care about DSG. In other words, I feel like this country (based on comments/conversations in life - when someone says they got a new car, and the first question asked is "is it stick?) still equates manual transmissions with higher performance/better driver/more manly. It's getting better, and only will get better with time - but I think a % of people still seem to want the manual option.

#edit - in other words, how I worded what I originally said was not exactly what I meant. (if that makes sense)

It really comes down to the fact that people still equate rowing gears as being a "sports" car or "manly". My mustang is my first manual and I absolutely love it and I'm very happy I went with the 6speed over the automatic. However, if said automatic was a dual clutch I would have went with that. People who are so used to the $#@!ty autos, just don't realize how much fun a dual clutch is. Coming from one, there are plenty of times I wish I could just smack the shifter into drive and turtle through shore traffic.
