The myth of DCT transmission software - Why can't anyone change the DCT shfit points?

It is now over 2 years into the DCT M3 development and no software developer is able to demonstrate control of the DCT software, not a single one.

Nobody can change the launch control RPM.

Nobody can change the shift points for the automated programs.

Nobody can remove the launch control limit.

Nobody can edit the temp sensors.

The only thing being done it would seem is that Xcede in South Africa was able to raise the rev limit to 9000 rpm which is done through the ECU:

I know ESS claims to have DCT software, but it just is smoke and mirrors, they are charging a ton of money for what they are actually changing in the ECU and that is fine, people buy it. So good for them, however, they don't really have control of the DCT, nobody does.

When SSP was disassembling my transmission we discussed the computer in there and they say nobody is able to interface with it yet or change the software. So the only parameters people are changing are those in the actual motor ECU, as in, raising the torque limits or adjusting the line pressure, that's it.

So when are we going to see *REAL* DCT programming? When can I specify that in the automatic modes I want it to shift at, say, 8500 rpm? When can I get someone to let me choose what RPM I want launch control to engage at from default? When?

Wild stab here! but from what I know the ECU that controls the DSG cars are inside the mecatronic ( don't know if that is spelled right). Maybe the MDCT ECU is NOT. and when i was lucky enough to have met Kris he said to me that the MDCT is build a lot stronger then the dSG or the GTR tranny and both the DSG and GTR tranny are similar in design.

The part about it being built stronger is correct, he has been impressed with the unit.

There is a electronic part inside the tranny but he states no one can interface with it or change the software as of yet.

What ESS does is just change parameters inside the ecu, the same stuff OE Tuning does when prepping a DCT car for a supercharger.

What I don't understand is why we can't change the shift programming or other details of how the DCT works, why the hell not?

maybe its just new to the tuning world.. I mean the DSG has only been out like 5-6 years. and I think they are the 1st to launch the double clutch on a mass volume.

I understand that aspect but it is software that controls the shift points, I don't see why tuners can't edit this.

I guess I just don't get why it is so difficult.

If you want to, you can get into and flash the TCU through the ODB2 port. Alot of tuners don't release this and say you need to bring the car in-person Click here to enlarge. My guess, is since this is new to everyone and DCT in general - there are no off the shelf map and table locations in the current euro editor software. Tuners seem to have not taken a stab in the dark yet. It will all need to be done by scratch.

Same with the E60 M5. I used to laugh when new-to-bmw tuners used to raise the rev limiter and leave the SMG programming and torque tables alone and and wonder why they threw faults when revving over stock limiter.

I don't get why they say they need to say you need to see the car in purpose, it is BS, so what is the point?

So it will be trial and error basically trying to find out what tables to modify, right? Sucks there is no roadmap for this but hopefully someone attempts it.

I know GIAC flashed TCU through OBII when I had my GTI. it raised the launch control rev and maxed the redline to 7200rpm and shifted faster.

Raising redline has been done as that is just in the ECU and not tough to find. Also, not sure how they made it shift faster as the dual clutch is pretty much mechanically limited from going any faster.

They raised the launch RPM though? That is impressive.
