Looks spectacular in person, and the performance is not bad (0-60 under 4s and low 12s). For the price of a C4S, it's a tough choice, but it is pretty special. And I imagine they are working on a higher performance version...

I like the i8, looks like a real interesting car

Rumor has it BMW is developing a mid engine sports car, maybe a r8 fighter?

I still love this car, and especially at the price point. If I had the money though I'd be waiting for the convertible as it will be a sick convertible cruiser that turns heads. No need to do anything aftermarket besides maybe wheels.

Not hard for BMW to find 1,900 fanboys to buy the car.

The hybrid NSX is going to kick the i8's ass.

    If I couldn't pull away from a CLA45 AMG for $140k that's sad.

the i8 runs i think mid 12s which means if i put on some radials it's a driver's race, but low trap cause they're slow

I bet there's some decent power left on the table with some just some tuning; sad part is I bet BMW has that DME on level 10 lockdown

Really? Curious as what the rumors are, I thought this thing was basically all carbon fiber with some aluminum? Supposedly super rigid? I guess only time will tell once we see more in the hands of people that will drive them on the street and come back with true honest enthusiast reviews

    http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/in...ent-challenges
A spokesman said that incorporating the carbonfibre-reinforced plastic bodyshell construction of the i8 into a convertible format was proving problematic: "The last architecture presented some fairly major challenges, to be able to produce a convertible in that format. The rigidity was hard to find with that particular architecture."
i mean we can figure it out on our own, why else would there be problems with effing CF anf alluminum on a lightweight car? cause BMW is probably full of $#@!, who knows

plus coming up is a first year car, so there's gonna be a few problems. we'll just have to wait and see.

I remember reading somewhere the i8 if driven 10/10ths on the track the batteries get too hot and shut down. Leaving you with a 3 cylinder $140k slow car.

At speed the i8's instant torque off the line isn't going to mean as much.

    Yep. 3.8s 0-60 and 12.3 1/4:

It has clearly been optimized well for launching as the 5-60 is pretty poor. But R&T gushes about driving it and seems to fall in love with it. And it definitely looks special.

    Exactly.

When you have instant electric torque it gets you off the line very quickly.

I haven't been keeping track of this car but I thought it was supposed to be lightweight.
    3380lbs (1535kgs) isn't particularly light.

Lighter than most new BMW's. I can't think of a lighter BMW in the lineup? Maybe the 2-Series Active Tourer?

It's also not bad considering the batteries, motors, etc. About 500lbs lighter than a Volt, 400lbs lighter than a 918 and about the same weight as a P1.
