AEM Infinity or Pro EFI to control a turbo S54? Saad Racing built Precision 6766 turbocharged and Pro EFI controlled E46 M3 S54 shows 667 whp on 11 psi

The two most popular standalone ECU choices for forced induction BMW E46 M3's are the AEM Infinity and the Pro EFI 128 systems. Saad Racing leans toward the Pro EFI system and this is one of their recent creations. The dynograph below is from an E46 M3 with a Precision 6766 turbocharger on a built motor. On very low boost, 11 psi, the motor shows 667 to the wheels on a Dynojet. On high boost this should be capable of over 900 horsepower to the wheels although BimmerBoost certainly would like to see this car do it.

The Pro EFI system is doing a great job controlling the motor and the AEM Infinity system has shown great results as well. So which is better? It likely depends on what your tuner is most comfortable with as either one is more than capable of handling a turbo E46 M3 S54.

Undercover racing is going for the S54 horsepower record using a Pro EFI system which is plug and play. The AEM Infinity system is also a plug and play complete ECU and offers features like a three-step rev limiter, traction control, anti-lag, and map switching. It looks like you can't go wrong with either.

It spikes due to the connection probably but just ignore the peak torque figure as it obviously isn't accurate.

Good Job to SAAD Racing for there commitment thus far and Undercover Racing for pushing the envelope.

I like both systems but ended up with the AEM Infinity-8 because of a deal. I caught it at the right time. I really do not Like the FACT that the AEM system removed the cruise-control but other than that the only real difference is the AEM is a complete ECU that literally replaces our current ECU where the Pro-efi is a HUGE piece that takes over the P/S area (opposite from the ECU)

YOU REALLY CAN NOT LOSE WITH EITHER!

Looking forward to Under cover racings product!!

The AEM replacing everything is pretty impressive.

They are both good systems but the AEM ECU seems to be more capable as a full standalone as the Pro EFI still requires the factory DEM. The infinity is also newer though.

I don't get how people are on the infinity bandwagon without any proven performance compared to ProEFI with multiple platforms making big #'s and performing great. Last I heard AEM is playing catchup for all the things ProEFI has sorted out(e85, TC, etc.)

You can't fault a product because it is newer.

Of course you can. If it's a direct competitor to something already established you're effectively throwing your product into the fire and better be ready. It's the nature of the game.

So you're punishing a product for being new?

What punishment? Just deserved scrutiny...ProEFI is on top right now and AEM has a lot to prove before reclaiming that spot(this is of course excluding MoTec, Syvecs, etc. who aren't as widely used in comparison but are quality systems)

How can something that is newer have the same library of results as something that is older that by default has the benefit of more years of use? Yes, Pro EFI works well and has more results than the AEM Infinity but majority doesn't equal better.

Isn't that the same as saying the AEM is unproven? Which was my original statement.

Don't the Lab22 cars use the AEM Infinity and wasn't a custom one off AA M3 retuned using it?

Is there anything out there on them? Do those results come close to anything seen from ProEFI?

I mean, the Alpha Omega car is a completely purpose build setup with every component focused on the track, and then it got beat by a full interior COBB tuned car

Yes, Lab22 uses the Infinity in their builds. Obviously Marcus' car is their marketing "flagship", but that cars gone through so many revisions and rebuilds that it's hard to compare the original setup (HPF kit/HPF tune), to the Saad setup (motor rebuild/ProEFI/biggest turbo/low compression) & the current Lab22 setup (motor rebuild with higher CR/AEM Infinity/smaller turbo).

I haven't seen too much on them to be honest I just thought they used it. I'm pointing out it seems you can do well with either.

You're a little all over the place here but does it have less features? Does it have different features? Do they each possibly offer something the other does not?

Well I'm not sure, but the "standard" standalone features (boost by gear, anti lag from a stop) are probably from the Pectel & Motec camp. But ProEFI was pioneered true FlexFuel, the aftermarket TC via ignition, rolling anti-lag, VE tuning, and they also have some of the best safety features (like automatically adding fuel in lean/underperforming conditions, programmable safety limp modes, etc).

None of them are "bad" products, but with ProEFI you're getting a product that has several records on several platforms & at an excellent price point.

I mean, if you want to keep any of the comfort features (keyless entry, NAV, etc) all of them require a stock DME -- All pretty sure they all need the stock DME for the factory ABS programming. Even the Hennessey Venom GT keeps the Lotus DME for those exact reasons, but the ProEFI controls all engine related functions.

I don't know. Maybe. I don't know enough about if you lose comfort features with the AEM Infinity or not on the E46 M3.

You don't need to keep the factory DME in the car with the AEM infinity and it will still control everything in the car as it was intended from the factory.

AEM does the rolling anti lag, 2 step, launch control, boost by gear, etc. The new infinity is pretty hard to beat in terms of functionality.

    Looks pretty sick.

Rolling anti-lag is BIG. Brake boosting essentially.
