Assuming equal power, the E92 M3 will win by virtue of its shift speed and extra RPM. That said, the S54 is a great motor.
A lot of people may not know this, but there are a bunch of built turbo e46 m3s that rev higher than blown e9x m3s. Some up to 9000 rpms. But yes, the e9x m3 has the advantage if its a dct. But when its 6 speed, different story.

Definitely, there are some 9000 rpm cars. One guy here is even approaching 9500 I think. To take advantage of that RPM gain you need to adjust the gearing of course it is not just the rpm alone. So assuming at 8000 rpm you hit 60 in 2nd gear let's say it goes to 70 at 9000 rpm. If you gear the car to hit 60 in 2nd gear at that same 9000 rpm you will have much more torque at the axle over that MPH spread.

I can't speak on other cars' gearing as I do not know what their setups are. Marcus was mentioned here and just to comment on his car.. He has stock gearing but revs between 8500-9000. Anything further about gearing details, I don't know.

Picking up RPM doesn't mean your torque curve or head flow follows suit.

It helps when your motor is designed to rev to begin with and has a torque curve that takes the revs into account.

Not much is going to have a curve this beautiful:

Note how you cut out the first part of the post where I said that's the benefit of adding boost to an N/A, high revving, high VE motor. But if you still look at the top aftermarket 60-130s, talking sub 4.5, it's predominately cars that were built for boost (Ford GT + GT500, GTR, 997/996 Turbos, Supra) and a handful of outliers, few UGR R-Lambos, two turbo S52s and one S54 and one LS7 Z06.

What did I cut out? Didn't you edit your post? Seems you deleted it before I finished quoting?

Oh I guess 60-130 and the cars that have measured it determines what a motor can or cannot do now.

I think all of these cars are very strong and I think mine will hold its own just fine.
