ROFL! The S65 is the best sounding V8 outside Maranello my friend...fitted with a proper exhaust.

Akrapovic will clean this up and make it sound bassy and powerful. They are making the optional M exhaust right? We need to hear that.

When I swapped the front section on my S65, it sounded like a Civic at low RPM at light load with the stock rear section. Added the Akra and it sounds amazing now and still has a staccato at higher RPMs.

sounds awful for an inline 6, but im willing to bet that tinny and insubstantial sound is the result of the placement of high-flow metallic primary cats. Its like the USDM S54; once you remove the primaries and install headers, that buzzy/thin/boring sounding exhaust note turns into a high winding shriek.

Turrible. If I want another M3 I'll get another E92. For now I'll enjoy my S85

    From Autocar:

While it is spectacularly powerful and endows the M4 coupé to previously unattained levels of acceleration, the new engine lacks engagement and sounds disappointingly flat at certain points in the rev range. It also fails to match the sheer response of the engine it succeeds.

Wow - that is quite a condemnation of the car....particularly the engine response point. Doesn't surprise me though...even having driven the MP4-12C, it does not match the responsiveness of the S65.

I have to drive one of these things...

You can always adjust the programming on the enhanced cabin engine sounds also : P

I'm sorry, I can't get over that...it really drives me crazy.

That is the enhanced sound from the speakers.

I have read multiple reviews now that said at times it sounds like a diesel.

Because it's noise from the speakers. It's such a joke.
