I prefer to use rare Blue Whale blubber oil as fuel. It is 950$ a gallon and 152 octane, takes a whole dead whale to fill up my tank. But this is big boy stuff.

I put whale skeet in my diff fluid as an additive. Makes the viscous properties go up.

Please, you think that is big boy stuff? My car runs on the tears of Chuck Norris. And considering he has yet to cry, when and if he does, assuming the single tear drop does not destroy the planet and I am able to somehow harvest it, the vehicle will likely rip a hole in the space time continuum when attempting to tap into the energy concentrated inside Chuck Norris' tears; estimated by the leading scientists of the world to be 100000 times the power of the largest star recorded by human astronomers.

    Top that.

Well after sitting down and actually writing out the numbers, we have decided to go a different route, something that has not been done before.

LS series engine from a GTO or a vette will be making its way into the engine bay at some point. Ive brought the project down to a reasonable budget. To boost the M30 I was looking at 6-8k at the very least, just to get an engine to make 400hp and hope it doesnt blow up. That doesnt account for all the oopsies or unforeseen parts or things I might need to buy/make. Plus tuning, would push it past 10k.

For a good 3-4k, or even 5k (for an entire crashed car), i can pick up an LS1 or an LS6 complete with trans, ECU and harness. 405hp out the box, change the cam and add bolt ons and im looking at 450hp/400+ft/lbs. More than enough for me, I can use an easy clutch (or even stock) that is great for every day driving.

Anything else in this car is almost entirely fabrication. We came upon the idea and the fact that it would actually work, because GTO oil pans sit in the front, right where the M30 pan sits now. I can possibly get away using the steering box/steering link assembly, but really the better way out is to modify the subframe to accept a rack like an E30 or E36.

Someone has already done this....they put an S50B32 Euro into a 528e and then turboed it. They yanked the steering box out, mounted a rack from unisteer.com, and spent a good few days getting it lined up correctly. As it sits now the tie rod ends have no droop or bump steer issues as they are level with the ground.

Thats really about it. If I wanna go crazy, I can get a dry sump oil pan and kit for about $1500 everything included (and I can drop the engine another inch lower), but the pump takes place of the AC compressor. Would I like to keep the AC in this car? Yes, but at the rate that im working at the shop, I will only have evenings and possibly some weekends to take the car out and drive it..by that time the weather will be cool and more tolerable.

My own boss pushed me at the idea, as he has a 240sx we are putting an LS1 into, and I have a friend who has it swapped already and it is fast everywhere, in your face. No waiting for a turbo to spool (yes i will miss that), instant, tire frying fun. Not to mention this engine has been modified in a million different ways, and doesnt cost a whole lot to get a lot of horsepower out of.

The spare M30 has already recieved some interest, hopefully I can off it and put that in the funds pile for the car.

The LS swap makes a ton of sense IMO.

I'm just wondering how hard it is to pull off. You have the benefit of being able to do it all yourself which is very nice.

Keeping AC is a must, at least it would be for me in California.

You will miss waiting for the turbo to spool? Why? An LS1 with an aggressive cam is a mean, mean ride. Sounds great, no turbo, just raw torque + power.

I think the main thing is selling the M30, if that can be done, it puts things in motion for this to happen.

Turbo M30's have been done and done again. I can't think of too many LS swap E28's.

Thats the thing..I cant think of one. LOL

Would be nice to keep it in the BMW family and do an M62 but I would spend look getting that engine overhauled...and for what? 260hp?

So I picked up the latest issue of Engine Builders to read while on the beach today, and they took an LS3 and added a stroker kit and AFR heads, and it made 663 crank HP...on a mild cam.

AFR heads are $2700 alone Click here to enlarge

I went to their website and did some reading. They improved a lot in the low lift area, this is where there heads really shine as they are usable from idle on up to redline without sacrificing like a regular build would.

Honestly, a stock LS3 is more than enough. Just be happy knowing you can get crazy with it if you want to.

I own a set of AFR heads on my mustang

They are WONDERFUL heads. AFR pioneered CNC machined heads for of the shelf use before anyone. You wont get a better head for the price, why? Because if you get any other head, youll probably need to CNC or port finish them anyway, spend a little extra dime on AFRs if you want heads worth a damn trust me.

P.S. I love the idea of the LS motor in the E30 chassis. Simple and to the point, no bull$#@!, lots of power and dead reliable. Should be solid 11s and 10s on spray all day.

I just don't know if the E30 Chassis is really up to par to handling that power.

The E30 has more in the name of parts to beef the rear subframe up...us E28s are stuck with poly bushings and thats about it...anything else has to be fabricated.

I wonder how the rear will hold up.

I was thinking of having the car painted frozen grey, but Im having conflicting sides of the brain. If I had this car ready for Bimmerfest that would definetly draw some heads and possibly a magazine article.
