    Messy E60 log halp/feedback

Posting this log as it’s the messiest I’ve looked at in awhile. The timing curve even in 3rd is no good, which is odd. Car should be in very good shape, plugs and coils have about 6K on them and I haven’t had a perceivable misfire in months. No codes except the 2AAF shadow code. Full context for the map is below- not spraying meth right now FWIW. Any feedback is appreciated, thanks.

It’s the E30 OTS map with some modest revisions.
    1. 3D scalar for E70
    2. An additional half-degree of advance across the board, I didn’t like how it built in some of the higher load tables. So it targets 14 degrees up top, normally it hits 12.5-13 or so in 3rd.
    3. Small tweaks to the WGDC adder table. Trying to meet target boost a little better up top, the OTS curve was consistently underboosting a bit up top and does not appear to be a boost leak. Meeting peak boost is never an issue.
    4. Alterations to the load to torque table, only in the high load /rpm cells. The current setup closely mirrors the below. It’s made a small difference, but the flatline still destroys advance the second you shift. As you can see I short shifted. http://www.bimmerboost.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=34683&stc=1&d=13855883 63

    My
    personal thoughts
    1. I hate IJE0S. Hate it. Timing flatline is a bad joke. Short shifting I can save timing sometimes, but even then it’s no good.
    2. It’s targeting too rich for E60.
    3. Trims should be tighter
    4. Boost curve could obviously use some work
    5. HPFP solution pls.

Just an observation, but notice how the timing doesn't really $#@! the bed until that RPM spike immediately post shift? Is that some trans slip going on?

For sure, good point. I’m not sure is the honest answer. What I will say is that the “spike” you are noting appears to be larger when you start toying with the load to torque cells, which makes sense if the table is what we think it is. If the DME is under reporting expected torque, I could see slip coming into play. On all of my logs, it’s the shift event and that spike that throw timing off. There’s just no way it’s knock IMO.

FWIW the transmission has never limped on me, I feel no noticeable slip or anything of that nature, and I wouldn’t expect it to slip at the type of WTQ I’m making (lets call it 450 or so).

Most 6AT logs i’ve seen have this spike, but I agree this one is unusually “large” and prolonged. That would be quite unfortunate if my trans isn’t happy, I was just about to start cranking things up for summer time.

Here’s an example of a log before I made any changes to the load to torque tables, as you can see no shift spike, and timing still takes a bath. Sometimes the logs show that spike, sometimes they don’t.

Is the second log in post #3 still targeting 14 degrees? Timing problems with stock tune?

Yessir, 14 up top. That log is far more indicative of a “normal” 3rd gear timing curve for me.

But the car doesn’t seem to care what I target in terms of flatlining it when I shift. I’ve flatlined OTS pump gas maps a billion times. So I can pull out a few degrees of timing so we’re 1000% certain I’m not just overtimed…but I’ve flatlined 13 degree targets with E60 and meth. With no obvious timing corrections in 3rd, I have a tough time believing I’m way past MBT or anything. What do you think?

Doubt it's overtiming but the corrected timing numbers aren't adding up in the first log. I'm wondering if your stock tune also has similar timing problems to rule out mechanical issues. Have you ever had your valves cleaned? Any stuttering start ups after the car sits for a couple hours (not full cold start just 1.5-2.5 hours between starts)?

Valves were cleaned about 5K ago, that’s def not the problem. Car hasn’t thrown a misfire code in ages; I do my best to keep it in very good shape. I can swap the timing tables for STG2+ OTS into my E60 map, there is no way I’m seriously overtimed targeting 11-12 degrees with E60, but that will conclusively prove it. I’ve flatlined STG1+ aggressive, so again I doubt that’s the issue here.

On true cold starts I have noticed the car sputters for a second after cranking over. It’s not an issue at the HPFP or LPFP as I’ve logged both during cold start and they are normal. Perhaps it’s an injector issue? Either way, on a warm car it never happens. And once the car clears its throat, it goes on its merry way. Has never thrown an injector related code FWIW.
