    First, congrats to MHP on all the great results.

    I'm going to focus on the BMW's obviously as I am disappointed with the E92 M3. Guy had trouble launching, clearly, running 13.2 and then 12.7. Wonder if it was a DCT, car is tricky to launch.

    Yeah, kid needs DRs bigtime it is a DCT car. His 60's ranged (from what I saw) from 1.9-2.2. Traps were 110-114mph, so again a large spread due to inconsistent launches.

    You're the E90 expert, with those mods (ECU, CAI/Filters, no cats, pulley, Gintani exhaust) what do you think of the traps? It sounded mean that's for sure.

    With drag radials and a proper launch he would have been in the 115-116 range, exactly where I was for the same mods. Looks like the air was good so I wouldn't be surprised he got a mph higher than me if he launched right. On the 13 second run he bogged pretty badly, just practice. Probably a good thing as once I got my launch down I did pass after pass after pass and ending up needing new clutch discs.... yet no one made them.

    I felt bad, he was in the dedicated street tire lane (bye bye VHT) and was either as you said spinning or bogging. Being that trap typically goes up with spin on launch (as long as you stay in it and it doesn't bog) I expected somehwhat higher numbers. The majority of traps were 111-112, I saw 2 114s and 2-3 113s. Again though he made around 50 passes and I saw maybe 20?

    Seems like his DCT performed flawlessly, shifts sounded crisp even later in the day, made me miss my M5. Click here to enlarge

    That is typically the case but look at it this way. My best MPH came with my best 60 foot. Often spinning does produce a higher trap, but also I have seen people go to slicks and get higher trap speeds. The videos from a while back of the Mustang GT 5.0 when it went to slicks being a good real world example as well, especially considering radials are supposed to give better traps.

    Reminds me of when I got my runs done on stock PS2 street tires with pretty much the same mods but 6MT my best trap was 115mph.. meh was my first time ever at a drag strip though.

    I'm sure next time the guy will run some drag radials and we'll see an improvement.

    The street tire lane was super slick. I ran in pump mode all day and was blowing my tires off through 4th gear. I had full tank of race fuel and meth...no point...I get better traction on the street. I ran the car there in April on street tires and ran low-mid 11s consistently and was hooking in 3rd. Next time I will run the e55 (always on drs there) or put drs on the m3 for sure. No more street tire lane. haha

    Andy, sorry I didn't get to meet you, but bigtime congrats on the numbers your MHP cars put down. It is absolutely ridiculous what you have done with that platform. 11.29 on a na motor is.... wow!!!

    It is true that on cars with which you can play with diff gearing, chassis and suspension setup, as well as dump the clutch or at least have a higher stall you will MPH/Trap higher with slicks than on street tires, however if you can't do those things trap should go up proportionately with lack of traction.

    Sounds kind of similar to what I did. I had a bunch of 112-113 traps and then when I nailed my run I got a 12.1@115, best launch of the day.

    No question, launching sucked with my M5 as well, but the WOT shift speed was insane especially post tuning. Are you still going to finish your E92 build or are you going with something else?

    Charlie, my apologies for not meeting you either. I initially thought the silver E39 M5 was yours since I heard some whine coming from under the hood but met the gentleman that owned it (turned out to be supercharged) later on very nice guy. He said you had your HPF car there, brother that car needs slicks or DRs period! LOL. You had more traction issues than anyone save Clayton in his SL600, maybe more. Was that your black E55 there as well? I saw you blow the tires off pass after pass.

    Again sorry but I will make it a point to say hi in a month.

    The thing is, launching with the DCT doesn't suck, it is just a matter of getting the trans to cooperate with the SC. When NA, I could launch at 6200 rpm Click here to enlarge When SC'd.. well, the thing overheated pretty badly after the burnout. SSP is on it though, if the overheating is fixed the car will be incredible on the strip.

    I have toyed with just selling it and just not dealing with all of the headaches but I have a long list of people I want to prove wrong so... I'm not sure. I want to set some records, we will see. I also want a lot of unique content for this site and to use the car to do some serious marketing. Once SSP finishes the trans I'll know what I'm doing.

    You're right it doesn't suck, it just sucks on street tires with stock trans/tuning. Launch Control rocked in the M5 but I dumped my clutch on the side of the road on the 8th launch with it, so I never used it again after. I'm sure with a built trans and cooperatitve TCU tuning it's going to launch like a beast.

    Completely understand where you're coming from, everyone that's as serious as you/we get with cars has a crossroads like that (if not more than one) during a build as intensive as this, can't wait to see what you end up doing.

    I mentioned it in the 1/4 mile thread, I thought it was Charlie's car but talked to the owner later in the day. Nice car. I didn't know the setup until I spoke with him, at that point he was done racing.

    all i have to say in regards to the C63's is INSANE - good $#@!, and insane numbers for a N/A V8

    in regards to the M3, I was excited when I saw the title saying "OE TUNING M3" because I was just about to get my car custom dynotuned with my exhaust and was excited to see what i should expect, but I am speechless at how pathetic both the ET's are and trap speeds - I can understand the high ET's due to traction issues, but if your spinning off the line you should still be able to get a DECENT trap speed........
    ......why is it that us guys on the east coast can never reproduce times that come from CALI...we had this same issue when I had my fully-bolted 335...none of us could ever achieve the insane times that were being produced out west..

    It really isn't easy, it just isn't. With the DCT it is hard to get a good launch and maximize it. Yes, he didn't do well but he should not be held to the same standard as others especially if he is new at this.

    He wasn't just spinning off the line which definitely effected his traps. We were the first group to use the track after a heavy rain 2 days before, with only the first 60' prepped the rest of the track was like a skating rink. It is tough to pick up any type of speed when you can not put the power down. Wait and see what happens on Nov 20th before basing your final decision.

    I think if you spend any time at all at the strip you need to invest in some DRs (Clayton if you're out there this post's for you Click here to enlarge), they eliminate a HUGE variable as launch is 95% of the 1/8th & 1/4 miles.
