Has it finally shipped? Have you priced the tranny swap?

I think it shipped Monday. I don't know though, trying to get a tracking number. No word from my shop it was shipping from either. I was working on pricing out an MT swap, it was going to be $5k+ not terrible to be honest, that's of course buying a used transmission and installing an upgraded clutch, and probably being a bit nice on the labor end, and also doing the TCU flash myself which I would also need help with, so I'd say ~$6k is probably realistic.

If yall are going to big clutches, make sure you disable your clutch switch. The N54/N55/N20's only have HALF of a thrust bearing..... and you DO NOT want to have the clutch pushed in when starting the car (no oil pressure).

all of our track/race cars have clutch switches disabled. It saves the thrust bearing and ultimately the motor when you have heavy pressure plates.

Example: my M3 has a twin disc FX800. aint no way in hell I start that with the clutch pushed lol

Sorry I'm a noob, can you explain this in more detail? I have a spec 2+ w/ SMFW on my n54 and I have to stand on the clutch pedal to start it and was thinking about whether I could adjust where the switch is activated or disable it since the engagement point is well higher but wasn't sure if there would any undesirable consequences. Very curious to understand your point about the wear to the TO bearing and motor.

the pressure plate is being pressed down, right? its smashed between a transmission and engine- so the spring has to be pushed down to disengage the clutch, right? So that means the CRANKSHAFT is then pushed FORWARD against the thrust bearing. with high pressure plates, yes clamping force is MUCH higher on the clutch, but also has to be overcome by your foot (stiff clutch pedal).

the NG6 engines only have half of a thrust bearing vs. most engines having a full thrust bearing. with a cold engine start, no oil pressure on the bearing is no good!

You just have that pesky little thing called the DME to worry about. It cuts fuel when the clutch switch is engaged.

If we were able to disable the clutch switch would you no longer be able to use a WOTbox?

The quick answer is no, but i'm sure there is a way to make it work. Off the top of me head, i dont see why you coudln't use the existing switch to send a signal directly to the wotbox vice the DME. Or fab up a switch to send the signal. the WOTbox interface allows you to change the input type and voltage values, so its very customizable.

    ok- lets make this easier.

looks like a momentary switch to ground would work to disable the clutch switch, and let it act normally when driving.

Was about to post the same thing, very simple fix. I honestly don't think my clutch is stiff enough to worry about but I will prob rig up a switch anyway.

I'll paint the picture. Former hippie Ted who now is a board memebr of CARB is on his daily commute home. He's listening to his favorite driving tune from pop artists Ace of Bass. As he pulls up to yet another catless BMW he scrambles to turn on his 5 micron in car dual hepafilter. It's too late. He now wants to vomit the kale and $#@!ake mushroom lunch he had earlier in the day. Ted has had enough.

    Check this out

    http://www.softelectronic.com/en/aut...927760j-detail

We offer total reprogramming (read, write, copy, change or modify) of the TCM unit.
There are three generations of ZF 6HP TCM’s (transmission control module/unit).
The first and second generations ZF 6HP TCM’s produced till 2006 usually have problems with the software.
The third generation ZF 6HP TCM’s produced 2007-2008 also have problems with the software including a Range Sensor defect. When there is a Range Sensor defect, the unit could not be repaired. What we could do is to modify a first or second generation unit and after some adjustments is ready to be used as third generation TCM
