No spending limit? Cool getting an AMEX card and a yacht.

If that was the case, you'd get a black card. That has a minimum requirement of 100k worth of purchases in order to keep it.

yup...while the AMEX "says" no spending limit they actually have one that is calculated based on your spending and credit...

@ultimateendz when you ask for raises on the credit limits, how far apart to try to space those requests? I'm assuming you're not calling for all of the requests on the same day?

Between a couple retail jobs I've held I've accepted a few of them. We actually didn't accept AMEX at the golf store I worked at for the first 2-3 years I was there in college and most of our customers were holders. Always felt bad telling them we didn't accept it. I had several get upset and insist on running it through the machine saying, "that card can't be denied" yada yada yada $#@!s really

Yeah, try explaining that to the cardholder.

"Sir, we don't have an account with AMEX, it is literally impossible to process the card"

Cardholder: "No, you don't understand this card CANNOT BE denied"

    Me: SMH....

I used to get yelled at from people not getting approved for enough or at all for a Best Buy card when I worked there... "really? You make a $100k, but have a $3,500 mortgage, a $1200 Mercedes payment, and you're telling you have 10 other credits cards and you're asking me why you only got approved for $3,500?" LMAO

People think they are above rules when they get to a certain level. Whatever, I don't like dealing with people. I'd last 10 minutes in retail before I'd throw $#@! at someone and leave.

lol, most people are actually pretty good, but there are some that are a bit ridiculous, you get creative in how to deal with them, at least I did. I met a lot of really cool people between working at a high-end Best Buy Magnolia story in Chicago, and Golf Shop down in Bonita Springs, FL. Some of the wealthiest people in the United States were my customers.

    LOL - I have both.

Blaizon - who told you about the spending requirement of 100K as that is not accurate (FYI the card is called Centurion). You do need a net minimum liquid worth of 1 million. I think the last annual fee I paid was 2,000 or 3,000. The initiation year fee was 5,000 and that was a couple of years ago so it has likely gone up. If you don't travel there is no need for the centurion card as the main benefits tend to be travel related (airline lounge access, fx rebate on foreign purchases, dedicated individual for concierge items).

I've never thought that making a large purchase with a credit card was a good deal. The interest in usually from 12% to 19% so any thing I had to get financed, I just got a loan for it for much less interest.

My credit card limits are as low as I need them to be. Isn't it easier to get a big loan if you have low credit card limits?

Say you want to take out $25K at the bank. If you have a $1K limit on your credit card, there is less risk that you will buy something you can't pay and default on your loan than if you have a $15K limit. Less risk for the bank no?

You guys are saying that the higher your credit card limit is, the better your credit score is so it will be easier to get a loan?

Not necessarily as low limits usually will impact your credit score negatively. High limits and not using a large portion of your limit means you show you can handle credit responsibly. Your credit utilization ratio is very important so a low limit means a few purchases will show you using a high % of your credit. Better to have too much and not need it.

Yes. My credit score went up absurdly just from a lot more credit being available.

    Cool!

I just checked and I can increase my limits online (I have a Visa and a Mastercard). I'll see how much I can get.

    Thanks man!

Years ago, I was very sick, put all of my non-insurance covered treatments on AMEX via the specialist doctor/s.... effing fortune.......... initially the doctor wouldn't take said payment (I'd be dead) so AMEX lowered the rate the vendor had to pay... also put my dog's 2 month stay in hospital and multiple operations on AMEX at the same time....

You almost could buy a yacht on those guys !

I did finish the engine sections on CaddyBoost and for GMBoost today and I should have the whole DomesticBoost network up in Alpha testing stages tonight.
