We aren't broke because we keep printing money. We keep devaluing our dollar everytime we print more. Its not that difficult of a concept although we keep doing it. Makes no sense to me.

At least this is going for something positive and not just to prop up failed democracy building experiments in countries with oil which have cost hundreds of times this.

He's a lame duck president and not doing much of anything other than jockeying position for the next pres but I'm concerned Hillary is just going to slot right in behind him and continue the same policies. So potentially 8 more years of the same BS after he is gone. In other words, a full decade.

I think we need to go back to when the president mattered. I don't think anyone has confidence in the system itself any longer.

I'm in for a fundamental reform of the system. I would personally like to directly vote but they'll never give people actual power. Just the illusion of it.

I’m all for some type of fundamental reform, but direct democracy is usually pretty disastrous unless you have a very well informed and engaged voting populace. Ours is neither. Living in CA I’m sure you’ve seen how wasteful ballot initiatives have been. They’ve almost single handedly ruined the finances of your state.

Direct democracy allows for passion to become the law.

IE “well we really like teachers, so we should vote to increase their salaries for the 7th consecutive year, even though our budget obligations have been in the red for a decade”.

    Things like that. Just IMO.

NATO. That's why we can't let them duke it out. You see Ukraine is no match for Russia, Russia has over 6x the amount of ACTIVE military personnel and twice as many reservists and greatly outgun them. Russia would roll through Ukraine with ease. Then you have to worry.

Ukraine is shares their border with 4 NATO countries: Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Hungary.

Under NATO it's considered "you go against one of us, you go against all of us."
If shells, bullets, or soldiers cross that Ukrainian border into 1 of those 4 NATO countries, US would end up putting boots to the ground. Especially since we could get to that area easier than some other NATO countries.

Also consider that Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia, all of which are next to Russia are also NATO.

This. Folks we have foreign obligations per treaties we signed into, voluntarily. We are legally obligated to enforce the sovereign boarders of Ukraine and the Crimea (it’s semi-autonomous so that gets into a grey area).

I wish we could make foreign policy decisions in a vacuum, but that’s not how it works. Other players occupy the world stage, and would happily fill an American security void with their own agendas. Not good. I'm not saying let's invade tonight, but it's also not as simple as "stay out".

The problem with every politician, not just democrats is the fact they feel they NEED to do something. No, they only need to SAY they are going to do something to get votes, especially from most of the democratic base which has no clue what policies they even support. Then there's politicians that actually do something, like Obama, they're the biggest problem. I'd rather go back to the days when they just talk and don't anything, that way free market can rule itself back into success when we were far ahead of everyone else in the world.

Honestly we just need a no-bull$#@! leader (key word). Last election, I believe Mitt was the best, why? Because we needed to focus on economic recovery/revitalization. Foreign diplomacy and all the other bull$#@!, that's why you have a Cabinet. But if you have someone in Office who has ZERO leadership experience, let alone an understanding in business tactics, he's just going to follow his party's platform (tax the rich, provide fed. financial subsidy for the "needy") and listen to his "Yes" men.

Was Mitt going to be the best President, no, but he was the best option for America in that field.

Honestly, I'd rather see someone like Rand Paul who's not afraid to speak out (without support from a majority of the party), raise concern for his constituents & challenge the President (like the lawsuit he's proposing over the Administration's use of NSA surveillance on citizens). YES, he's a little inexperienced (which was the GOP's criticism of Obama when he ran the 1st time) since being elected to Congress in 2011, but at least he isn't afraid of backlash when he stands up for what he believes & ran on.

I like Rand's ideals but they will never let him get elected. They will hand pick their two and it won't matter which one of them makes it.

Interesting discussion, but I believe the $1 billion aid being referred to is an aid loan guarantee and technical assistance.

In other words, we are offering to co-sign with the Ukraine to the lenders of aid.(which most likely will be world organizations that we contribute to heavily.)

I support Rand 100%, he seems like a highly decent man.

But as you noted, he is unelectable, and I’m not sure he is qualified to be POTUS. Both him and his father have shown to be absolutely horrendous judges of character, that or they are simply incompetent with regards to vetting their associates. Both have an uncomfortably long trail of outright bigots, racists, conspiracy theorists, etc on their coat-tails. It’s a shame because they’re both good men, and I totally support their broad worldview. But they just aren’t up to snuff, end of story.

    Bobby Jindal needs to run.
