    Stock turbo + nitrous Realiable???

Building a 335i in the next few months. With my performance needs and budget I'll be going with a stock turbo jb4 e85 mix + nitrous setup. Plan on only running a small shot. Hoping for mid 11's through the 6at. My question is how can these motors handle a small shot ie 30-50?

Look up @CBR335 over on N54tech.com he did quite a bit of nitrous testing IIRC.

A few people have messed around with it, believe they were overseas for the most part. I see no reason why the motor wouldn’t take a 50 shot but it’s not something I’d do and look for “reliability”. No idea how the trans would like it with how violent spool and torque would be.

There's nothing wrong with nitrous. It comes down to your tune and how big of a shot. Don't get greedy with the nitrous.

Dry or wet matters also. A small dry shot should be fine which is what most people have tried. If you have an aggressive tune that bumps your timing that is when you need to worry. If you intend to squeeze run on the richer side.

After building my 2nd nitrous kit on my car, I can safely say, that it is very addicting and relatively cheap. Do it once and do it right. +1 on getting a tuner to custom tune it, my car safely made 90whp on a 75 shot. Only problem I run into now is keeping pressure up (bottle gets cold while on it)through out the entire run.

TL;DR - I need a bottle heater. Click here to enlarge

keep the jet size small and tune for it and its no more unsafe than anything else (small is subjective but around an .022-.028 has been solid and safe for most that have tried it). If you venture into the larger jet sizes you are testing waters that few others have and those that have made the attempt seem to break stuff. Garth @undercover has a project car with direct port setup that has been hit with a very large shot if I recall correctly but other than that my advice is to keep it small and don't chase the extra HP.

With a direct port setup you don't have to worry as much about an aggressive tune or going lean as you are supplementing additional fuel. So, that's the best way to go for safety.

FSR in Montclair, CA set up a 335i N54 on NOS a few years ago. They've done several tunes for me and are a very knowledgeable group of guys. Unfortunately I can't seem to find the link of the dyno vid but I believe it was a 50 shot set up.
