The problem comes in the press releases. The reviewers and columnists see them in the European releases well in Europe they release the weight figures as dry weight. We don't expect to see dry weight. The same thing happened With the 370z.

I wonder if the DCT in the F30 is lighter then the outgoing DCT trans. I read the manual gearbox is 26lbs lighter…How they pulled that off or if it was true, I have no idea.

I seriously doubt it's lighter. It may even be the same box.

Seems like BMW still seems to list DIN at 1497kg (3300.32lbs), while EU is listed at 1572kg (3465.667) (90% fluids, 68kg (149.91lbs) person, 7kg (15.43lbs) luggage(?))

    But then in ( ) it lists the 7DCT transmission with DIN = 1537kg (3388.505lbs) and EU = 1612kb
    (3553.85lbs)

Looks like they are estimating the 7DCT to weigh 40kg (88.18lbs) more than the standard manual.

Can anyone translate german? I can't wait until we see "real" figures from a magazine that weighs the entire car with options, seems like BMW figures are over the board.

They cite them in a way designed to portray them in the best possible light. They'll even twist them like BMW did in linking the M4 street car and DTM car which is just absolutely idiotic. I mean it's so stupid I can't even believe they did it.

DCT car is something like 55lbs heavier then the manual M4 I read on some spec sheet... but don't ask me to find where I read it..

But seriously, we should all wait and drive the thing and add some ingenious devices that I am sure Terry@bms etc will add and I am sure we will get some sort of joy from this new M version

I have seen many analysis on speeds/times/traps etc suggesting a stock M4 with DCT going

    0 to 60 mph = 3.8-3.9s
    60 to 130 mph = 10-10.3s
    1/4 mile @ 119-122 mph in 11.9-12.2s

Not bad for starters on a car that should be a 7.50ish on the Nurburgring so it will be quick around curves

BMW isn't the only one who does this. Even the "curb weight" is usually optimistic. I want to say Road & Track (though maybe it's C&D) weighs almost every car they test, and they publish the claimed curb weight and measured weight. Sometimes there's a big difference that's more than just a tank of gas worth.

In their technical specification, the last E90 M3 weighed in at 1655 KG, the latest M4 weighs in at 1572 KG or 3466 lbs... 1655-1572=83 kilos = 182 lbs - not too shabby, but definitely not as light as expected.

However isn't a 335i weighing in at with 3591 lbs of curb weight? I am using the same BMW technical document for each weight of each car. Am I missing something?

have you all seen the latest weights?

looks like the F8x is actually ~246lb heavier than the E9x apples to apples.. same options (so pretty basic, both with CF roof), half a tank of fuel each, real world measurement on scales.

    F8x on the scales

i'd like to see a simlarly equipped E9x vs F8x on the scales (same scales)

    a stripper of each

    and fully loaded of each

to compare the min/max weights and average.. real world.

manufacturer specified kerb weights don't exactly mean much.
