First post states that Helical type are rated and tested to hold 1000whp+ no problem and warrantied for it even for racing

The plate type are only rated to 500whp because of the design, I doubt very many will get this type of LSD, and if so are strictly track cars with the understanding that they would be changing these disks anyway

See what we did there? I do

What parts should be replaced in the LSD upgrade for a bolted large final drive (besides what is included in this deal)? What lubricant is recommended for this specific Helical LSD?

When replacing a differential, we highly recommend changing the diff bearings at the same time. When doing the install, you "may" also need to change back-lash shims, although you can only determine this during the time of install.

With regards to fluids, we recommend what the factory service manual recommends, or what you have had previous success with i.e Our Helical LSD does not require any special fluids

    Special Offer

Just in! We have an almost new 135i/335i AT Bolted Small Diff Helical LSD sitting on the shelf just now. This was a return from a customer as he purchased the wrong fitment and only figured it out after bolting up the ring gear and it wouldn't fit correctly inside his pumpkin. It is basically brand new and unused.

Fitment - 135i/335i AT Bolted Small Diff
Condition - As-new, except some superficial surface rust marks (we've removed the rust, but there are still faint marks left behind) and markings where the ring gear bolts were torqued on. These markings will in no way affect the durability or functionality of the unit, but obviously we can't resell it as a brand new unit
    Fixed Price - $700 inc shipping to the US/Canada, first-come-first-served. That's a 30% saving off MSRP!

If anyone is interested in this unit, please feel free to PM me Click here to enlarge

We don't have a final cost yet until we've developed the new final drive, as well as sorted out all the oem parts we'll be needing. Ballpark is around what you mentioned though, yes.

The LSD itself can handle whatever power you throw at it; it's the plates/clutches inside that are the issue, as these can wear/break under extreme use. It doesn't matter what brand Plate LSD you have, this is the case for all of them.

If you drive a street car, you will find it far more satisfying with the Helical LSD (and don't pay attention to those who keep going on about free-wheeling under no-load conditions etc etc). If it is strictly a track car (circuit/rally, NOT drag), then the adjustability of the Plate LSD is what sets it apart.

can you build them with stronger plates?

500whp in a modern timeattack car will leave you somewhere towards the back of the pack no matter how much better the LSD is Click here to enlarge

The rating is conservative, as the ultimate deciding factor how long the plates will last will depend on your driving style and how aggressive you get. Maintenance also plays an important role.

You could have 1000whp and get a full season out of the plates, whereas a car with only 350whp might only get a couple races out of them.

As an example, we have a customer who has 600whp in his Time Attack car, is maintained well, and has run our LSD for over 2 years and the Plates still look like new. On the other hand, we had a customer who only has 200whp (this is in a Honda), but has had to change the plates twice now due to excessive wear and broken nibs (the protruding parts from the inside edge of the plates which lock them into position with the gears).

P.S Power isn't everything, especially if you don't have the proper setup to utilise that power effectively. This is why our 200whp time attack car is consistently faster than cars with over twice the power.
