which make to go for !

    Hello all,

I'm not new to cars, owning several cars and the one I loved most a 944 cab.

I'm currently driving a Chrysler and looking to get a different daily driver.

My car must be an Automatic and be a convertible.
I just loved the stlye of my 44 and how it made me feel.

I do a lot of hi-way miles as well.

    I am toying with either

    04' MB clk 320
    or
    04' BM ser 3 325

    (of course any other suggestions)

I know cars are very personal, which is why I came here, I love German cars
so please if anyone has suggestions and "whys"

some other considerations, all year round here in Canada, back seats for my daughters car seat, I wanna feel good when I drive it

I've driven mercs before and there great
    thanks all

The 325 is a hell of a lot more fun to drive. Between those two, it's easy.

Not even close, E90 is miles better than the merc. Those mid-decade merc chassis are saucy.

He means it drives more like a town car than a sports car. The Merc is soft and flabby.

I mean the mid decade Mercedes are generally speaking poorly built, very heavy, poorly sorted in terms of dampening and spring rates…just generally not responsive cars. They really didn’t right the ship until the W204, some of those cars are frankly crap in terms of build quality. Mercedes admitted as much when they started planning the 204 like 3 years after the 203 had been put into production.

    Go with the BMW.

mercedes will kick your ass in maintenance, so i'd get the bimmer.

but outside those choices, a lexus sc430 (hardtop convertible). lexus is a hustler's car: feels like a benz except solid reliable and easy to own (just change the oil). of course, don't hit anything with it lol. the new ones are too expensive though, now that they have street cred.

    thanks Louis and all,

have been doing some more research.

I'm now leaning towards the BM, I really like the "square" shape, like my old skool 44.

But just saying you have a Merc ... Click here to enlarge

I must say, I am really overwhelmed with how many people have been helping me as a noob, here, other car sites give you $#@! till you've been on there a while ! Click here to enlarge

    many thanks

have repped everyone here ! cheers

IMO if you could wait a little bit and go for an e46 M3 convertible they seem to be had for a great deal now a days. I guess not many want the convertible but they are abundant on autotrader and cars.com atleast in NY. If you just want a good balanced car the 325 works but a e46 is a special car.

There really is nothing special about saying that unless it's an SL or an AMG.

Whoops totally oblivious to the '04 MY for the BMW. Though if we're talking E46 that would be even more compelling for me over a CLK. The E46 is a pretty special platform for sure.

It can be E46 or E92, both are better.

also, the M convertible, what is it like in winter driving, thinking about the top? I am trying to do a 6 month insurance with my existing car for winter and the M for summer, but assuming I cant, will I freeze my doughnuts off here in winter?

with the possible weight of snow screw up the top

    again thanks all

    Where is 'here' for winter?

The only M3 convertible available in automatic is the E36.

I mean there won't be too big of a difference between how the soft tops are in the winter. They obviously aren't the best choice for harsh winter conditions.
