A year for just smoking weed? There has to be more to it.

Here is a question. What if he was on the Broncos, where it is legal to smoke weed in Denver. Would he still get a suspension?

Well he's a multiple offender but I mean what's worse, violating the drug policy for weed a few times or punching out your wife one time?

Yes. Because it's the NFL policy.

NFL policy trumps state law...interesting. I bet lawsuit would get back lost salary, but NFL could probably still hold up the actually suspension.

I don't know about that...The NFL is such a huge entity, the team of lawyers they have must be absolutely ridiculous. I would be very surprised if they did not have everything spelled out perfectly so there is no room to even argue about lost wages.

Not surprising Brady isn't happy with the Mankins trade. I guess we will find out if this is the right move later in the season. The Buccaneers head coach sounded thrilled that they got him.

Highly doubtful. Gordon is suspended under the terms of his own union's CBA...People like to leave out the "collective" part of it when it doesn't suit their narrative.

There is no room to litigate over money here, in very plain terms he violated the terms of his employment, and voluntarily surrendered union protection by doing so.

He could try to appeal the appeal, but there is no "hey this isn't fair" defense with regards to NFL labor litigation.

Gordon is $#@!ed, and he deserves it. The rules are asinine but they are obvious and easy to abide by.

So naturally Pats fans are in one of two camps now

    1. "Mankins is gone, this team is going under. 5 win season"

    or

    2. "Mankins was awful, BB is teh best, Tim Wright = Hernandez. Auto Superbowl"

Both are wrong. The Pats won't win or lose the Superbowl because of this trade, hardly. Mankins was a rapidly declining pass blocker, but still an absolute bull at the point of attack. The notion that NE is "improving" by jettisoning him is absurd, but it's not as great a loss as some make it out to be. This isn't the same player as the 2008 vintage.

And the comparisons between Wright and Hernandez...oof. Only similarity is their position designation. Wright is an athletic dude with some nice traits and movement skills, I think he'll produce and play well. Hernandez was a rare talent, him and Percy were easily the most difficult iso matchups in the league. There are 0 players in this league right now, who could produce tomorrow playing from every skill position on the offense save for quarterback. That is rare, rare positional versatility. Hernandez had natural hands and special elusiveness - not sure if i've ever seen a more natural runner at the TE position with the ball in his hands. Pats fans undersell how much they lost when AH went to prison. So no, Tim Wright is not Aaron Hernandez. Not even close TBH.

A little bird says Dobson will suit up tonight. I did not expect that, as I had understood it he was rapidly improving but still wasn't quite in shape. I'm just frustrated he wasn't able to get any in-game reps with Tom.

Don't expect to see Easley or Gronk though. FYI.

I wasn't talking about Josh Gordon's case, but rather if a player from a state that has fully legalized marijuana.

Kinda hoping some Bronco gets suspended for smoking weed 100% legally. Just to see what happens.

I guess I really felt like they wanted to make a big push for the superbowl this year given who they acquired. Granted Mankins will not make or break a superbowl run but I feel we are not better off this year without him. My hope is that with a better QB throwing Tim Wright balls his numbers will significantly improve...as you said he is no AH. The Gronk AH due was just ridiculous.

It's a good move going forward given the salary hit and if we want to try and sign Revis for a multi year deal from my understanding.

Do you bet much on NFL games? Given your insight I would guess you would do well.

Any good news on Brandon Lafell? He should easily be the #2 receiver.

The money will almost certainly be spent on a Revis and/or McCourty extension. When you add up a 4th round pick, about $8mm in cap space, and a relatively high-upside TE who will catch at least 40-50 balls in this offense...not a bad haul for a 31 YO guard.

And no, i'm not allowed to bet on NFL games. Conditions of employment...I've mock betted against spreads before and didn't do particularly well. Football's a really tough sport to bet and win on.

Hey Dobson looked good tonight. Not as fast as he'll be in another month, but put on some good weight and all the other traits I wanted to see he showed. He'll be the top X the minute he's healthy.

Yea I scouted the crap out of him and Rueben Randell, was one of my first WR prospects. He tricks you is what it comes down to...Big body, long arms, good catch radius...Some decent vertical speed and a leaper..competes...but robotronic stiff, doesn't separate at the top of his roues. Flashes the spectacular grab but far too many concentration drops. Not a natural hands catcher. Well liked and respected coming out of school.

Not a bad player by any means but i'm not quite sure what his role will be on this team. He doesn't run well enough to play the Z, i'm not sure if he's better than Wright at the move TE, and Dobson is far more of a vertical threat at the X. IDK but I do know the staff really likes him. So they'll get him on the field somehow, he probably eats into Thompkin's snaps in 4WR sets.
