    Intercooler question - water/air versus air/air M3 S65 V8

Just wondering why some SC companies use water to air vs air to air? I see AA and Evolve both use air to air and also using a rotrex blower. While Gintani, ESS, and VF use air to water using a Vortech blower. I would think air to air would be the way to go on the S65. Also I wonder if Gintani new TT kit will be air to air as well.

I think maybe mostly Air to liquid because of space and I believe it's actually better. For air to air the key is surface area, which is hard to make a large enough intercooler to fit there.

    Water cools better than air.

Thanks for the response guys. I should of been more specific. I know water coolers are better but aren't the water coolers on the e9x sc kits sitting on top of the engine. Wouldn't that cause heat soak?

It depends where they are positioned and if they are shielded. An engine bay is a hot place no matter what but a solid water/air setup is going to give you some serious cooling power.

I don't think you have to worry about head soak as the radiators and all that are positioned in the bumper:
