    Top Mount with CF Hood?

    Does anyone with a top mount have a carbon fiber hood? I can't see this being a good idea. How much clearance is there between the turbo and the hood anyway?

    A carbon hood doesn't really even save much of anything over the aluminum anyway.

    you need turbo blanket! and i would put a little heat defective tape on the underside of the hood to help protect it. thats what I'm doing with my CF hood whenever i get her running again

    I can hold my carbon fiber hood with one hand. My stock OEM hood I cannot.

    he's talking about the m3 one, the M3 one is made from aluminum. the regular 3 series one is is made out of adamantium LOL

    I'd like one for the 135i. But, with the 1 series there is only a single latch in the middle, so hood pins would be required. I'm worried it might be too much of a headache for the 20# weight savings.

    Yeah. It's got the normal latch in middle and one on each side at the front.

    For the 335i depending on which one you get it should save at least 15lbs. Not sure if that's the same case for the M3 hood or not.

    CF is pretty heat resistant, however, the turbine side should have a heat blanket anyway, and if you really want to, you could just put a single layer of thin heat wrap on the underside of the hood.

    Honestly, speaking from experience, I wouldn't trust ANY cf hood without pins. I had a CF hood on my 335i and when I was driving from phoenix to LA(150+mph for long stretches) I was literally scared as heck simply because the entire hood was rippling in the wind. It was rippling like a flash in the wind all the way back to the windshield.
